A discussion forum for anything even marginally Hauptwerk-related.

Sostenuto on a classical sample??

PostMon May 31, 2021 5:09 pm

Gang...

Is it possible to use my sostenuto switch on my swell shoe on any organ... a classical sample in particular?

Thanks.

This is only possible if the feature is programmed into a particular sample set. Hauptwerk does not offer a "master sostenuto" function.

I believe that only two "classical" organ sample sets offer a sostenuto function (which you could connect to any MIDI control/switch): Voxus's Kuhn/Essen Philharmonie and Inspired Acoustics's Palace of the Arts/Budapest (PAB). Both of which are concert hall (non-church) organs. Other than those two, it's just the theater organs.

This isn’t likely going to be if any help to you, but I vaguely recall seeing a conversation about this somewhere before where using the MIDI sustain function might be used to achieve this result? I suppose also, that a change could be made to the ODF to add this feature to any set.

Maybe someone will come along shortly and confirm/deny.

See:

BTW, since that time, Jake has made the ODF changes for several of my other sample sets. (Sostenuto - MIDI CC66)
All work very well. I don't find the Sustain (MIDI CC64) to be very useful for an organ. I miss the Sostenuto feature on other organs that don't have this modification... However Sustain works very well on the Piano sample sets that I have. I've changed around Piano sample sets such as Ravenscroft 275 to play thru amps/speakers built into the console (independent from the HW organ speakers.)
