Notifications when a reply is posted

PostWed Jun 02, 2021 6:57 am

Hello,
When I connect to the forum, I always use an address like https://forum.hauptwerk.com/… and I never need to re-enter my login and password. But when I get a notification, the link is like http://forum.hauptwerk.com/… and re-registration is still required. I guess I’m not the only one in this case. Wouldn’t it be better to change the link addresses in the notifications? This is my suggestion.

Hello Martin,

I see you’ve just made a test. On my side, I’ve joined the forum from the link of my notification and now it works. Thanks for your help.

Hello Luc,

I hadn't actually changed anything. Do you mean that it's now working for you fully via HTTPS, and that the links in the notifications you're getting are HTTPS? Perhaps you just needed to clear your browser's cookies or something similar.

(I thought the forum was already set to send HTTPS links in emails, although I've also found one other setting in its administrator control panel which might perhaps be relevant. I'm a bit wary of changing it, in case it breaks the forum completely.)
Best regards, Martin.

In fact, I had only had this problem for a few days. During this time, the links actually started with HTTP instead of HTTPS. The two notifications I received today contain links in the right form.

Thanks, Luc. Glad to hear it's resolved, whatever might have caused it.

Hello again, Martin,
I just received another notification from another topic with HTTP instead of HTTPS.

I don’t understand what happens…

Hello Luc,

Please try:

- Log out of the forum software.
- Clear your Web browser's cookies.
- Restart the browser, for good measure.
- Log back into the forum, making sure you do it via HTTPS.

Does that solve it?
Best regards, Martin.

P.S. I've been getting lots of 'secure connection failed' messages erratically on the forum over the past three days or so, so perhaps the server is misbehaving at the moment, and causing your problem indirectly. (I think the forum software may try to determine whether to use HTTPS automatically.)
Best regards, Martin.

Deleting browser cookies is not without consequences for weeks to come. I prefer to give you some additional information to be able to diagnose the problem. It now appears that it depends on the topic from which the notification comes. For example, our current discussion generates correct notifications, while the topic
'Nancy – new sample set released' consistently sends notifications containing HTTP. Hope this observation helps.

I have to rectify my previous information, because I detected that notifications from the same subject arrive with a link sometimes HTTP and sometimes with HTTPS. So it’s random.

While he (or she) is at it, what's the chance that something can be done to fix the other BIG General Error issue?

General Error

SQL ERROR [ mysql4 ]

User 'dwywhmjb_hwforumuser' has exceeded the 'max_user_connections' resource (current value: 25) [1226]

An sql error occurred while fetching this page. Please contact an administrator if this problem persists

Very annoying to say the least.
