Thank Hauptwerk! 20 years of music, tinkering and joy.

PostWed Feb 09, 2022 6:09 am

:D Hauptwerk is 20 this year :D

I am in a reflective mood, working on some updates -- I dug out my copy of version 1 and the first set I purchased, from Organ Art Media. Well programmed and recorded, the software runs on Windows 10 and the organ sounds delightful!

I hope we will see lots of posts and videos this year to thank Martin Dyde for opening new doors for so many: were it not for Hauptwerk I would never have been able to maintain my skills and likely would not be playing today.

What's *your* Hauptwerk story?

Thanks very much indeed, Jerry! What a kind tribute. Very glad to hear it's been bringing so much pleasure to you, and thank you so much for all of your support too. I'm amazed you still have your v1 disc and RegSoft receipt!
Best regards, Martin.

We should plan for huge celebrations on August 4th.- anniversary of the release of HW v.1.0.
(Martin, please correct me if I have mis-remembered that date.)

You deserve to be canonized, and knighted, and all the things!

In all seriousness - Hauptwerk represented a paradigm shift. When you first concieved of it, as an alternative to hard-ware based solutions, it was to take advantage of the growing capabilities of consumer electronics. Today the platform has matured to allow students and professionals alike to enjoy organs from all over the world, and serves an important role for documentation and preservation (as has been done with the Peterborough series).

I think our beloved instrument has a very bright future indeed and it is all thanks to that idea you had to head down to St. Anne's and see if you could do it!

THANK YOU!!!

PS: regarding the digital hoarding... I can't help it!

I’m completely with Jerry on this. Without Hauptwerk, I dread to think what my life would have been like post-retirement. My practice has been much more extensive than it was in my years as a full-time church musician. Thank you to Martin and the many fantastic sample-set producers for this gift to the organ world. It is beyond any value I could assign to it. Never in my wildest dreams did I imagine that I could experience anything like this in my home.

Thanks, Douglas. I have to confess that I don't actually remember the exact date that I released it. I have a saved backup of the final version of the v1 website (prior to v2 being released), and a backup of the final v1 software version (v1.32), but not of the very first v1.0 version, and the news page from the final v1 website doesn't seem to mention the exact date of v1.0's release. Its first news item was from 14th September 2002, which would have been after the date that v1.0 and the website were initially made public. Hence it probably was August or very early September. If you think it was August 4th I've no reason to doubt that you're correct!
Best regards, Martin.

Possibly this is an appropriate point for me to ask a question which has long been on my mind:

Approximately how many users of Hauptwerk are there worldwide?

The number of members of the Hauptwerk Forum itself could give a rough approximation: 4297
(from the Statistics section at the bottom of forum.hauptwerk.com)

Clearly, Martin Dyde has brought immeasurable pleasure to organists, organ enthusiasts, both amateur and professional for two decades. Quite a remarkable accomplishment by any stadard. Since the beginning (Crumhorn Labs) to the present Hauptwerk VII, the software, more user friendly applications and audio improvements have enhanced user realism. And all the while, the company founder has never lost touch with the customers. Thankyou Martin Dyde.

BIG THANKS to Martin....I still have a packaging from Crumhorn Labs....I remember that when I first heard about the software I had dreamt that someone would create, I bought it after 1 week. I can practice at home and it brings so much joy to my life.
THANK YOU, Martin, once more

I fully endorse these testimonials to Martin and Hauptwerk, which is an extraordinary pice of software in a great many ways.

I would still like to know how many users there are. I would imagine only a relatively small proportion are members of this forum.
