The Torments of Tantalus

PostSun Apr 24, 2022 9:19 pm

I have just completed recording my newest transcription of Franz von Suppé's overtures: "The Torments of Tantalus." I actually completed the transcription in 2020 and was planning to premier it at Caltech Commencement that year. However, the pandemic caused that commencement and the next to be "virtual", using recordings of our organ, brass, percussion, and choral group from previous years. However, we plan a real in-person commencement in June, 2022 and I will again give my regular 45-minute organ recital to begins the ceremony, including a performance of this transcription.

As always, I have made this transcription available for free to the organ community. You can find it, and a link to the recording, on my web site at

This is not an easy piece, but it is a rip-roaring overture that is sure to please audiences. Have fun with this!

This strikes me as not too far from Lefebre-Wely. Works rather well on organ.
