Foot pedals to fill reservoir

PostMon Aug 22, 2022 12:42 pm

Technically this is not supported by the CODM, but it’s worth an ask! Say you have a CODM organ, and you want to enable foot operated filling of the bellows with two Midi swell pedals, how would you modify the ODF to get it to work? Thanks!

Hello larason2,

That isn't quick or simple, I'm afraid. You'd need to have/gain a good understanding of programming wind supply models in the full ODF format in general, then see the "The Wind Supply Model | Modeling wind components: hand pumped bellows" section in the sample set creator's guide for how it can be done (within the full ODF format). The guide also covers the wind supply model in general.

I'll have to leave that one to you if you want to experiment with that, though -- sorry!
Best regards, Martin.

If you get this working then we have really come full circle -- from manually pumped bellows to electrically powered blower motors, to manually powered electronic emulations of bellows.

An aside: as recently as 1960 new organs in this part of Sweden were built with bellows that could be manually pumped. Back then the eletricity supply in this part of the country still wasn't as reliable as we've come to expect in the latter part of the 20th century and today. So they built organs that could be manually pumped in the event of a power failure.

Pipeloops has a sample set which may be blown by using an assigned midi foot pedal,.
See http://www.pipeloops.com//product_info.php?cPath=23&products_id=52
Open the Details tab...
This manually operated wind supply has been completely modelled in the sample set, a truly unique feature among Hauptwerk sample sets! The best way to operate the bellows is to use Hauptwerk's MIDI-Learn feature to connect the organ's expression pedal (if available) with the foot pump lever.
