File format for transparency mask

PostFri Oct 23, 2020 7:29 am

Hello everyone,
I have a problem with the Transparency Mask. For the stop view I designed two different buttons and a mask in the same png-format. However, the mask has no effect, one button covers the other without the other one disappearing. A new mask as bmp cannot be loaded from Hauptwerk.

What goes wrong? Is there a necessary file format for the transparency mask?

Thanks in advance.
Best regards
Thomas

Hello Thomas,

You can't have controls overlapping each other on the virtual console (in either the CODM or the 'full' ODF format) -- that isn't supported. (Supporting layered/3D controls would add run-time overheads.) Each control needs to occupy its own distinct space. Transparency masks can only be used in order to allow the (fixed, static) background image(s) to show through.

Does that explain it?

Thanks for your quick answer.

Okay, when I understand you right, I can only have two identical controls (eventually with different colours) on the same position. At least this works on my simple screen.
Best regards
Thomas

Hello Thomas,

If you position two controls overlapping each other (partly or fully) then the order in which they'll be (re-)drawn isn't defined. Hence it isn't safe to do that in general -- you really need to avoid controls overlapping each other at all in order to be certain that it will work reliably.

Thanks, Martin,
maybe I‘ll find another solution.
