Zimbelstern not working

PostWed Jun 30, 2021 11:08 am

Hello all,
my upcoming sampleset has a Zimbelstern. My thought was, it is a noise stop, so I programmed it similar to the blower (division 7, not percussive, except not engaged from the start). But when I want to activate it, it keeps silent.

Any advice is welcome.
Best regards
Thomas

Hello Thomas,

You should just need to make sure that your sample has a loop in it (i.e. is sustaining), and create a Stop entry with:

SustainingSoundEffect_RankID
SustainingSoundEffect_MIDINoteNumber

... set to point to your Zimbelstern rank/note. (Don't create any StopRank entries for that Stop.)

Then whenever the user has that stop turned on the note will sound, and continue sounding until he/she turns the stop off again.
Best regards, Martin.

Thank you, Martin, for your quick reply :D

Yes, the sample has a loop, but I had wrongly created a StopRank entry.

Edit: It's working now 8)
Best regards
Thomas

Hello Thomas,

oha, there is a Baroque organ ;-)
I hope you also consider a Dry version with Impulse Response. PROSPECTUM has published a three-part series on the subject of Dry+IR in Okay magazine, where he explains very simply and convincingly why the solution with 3 release samples can never lead to a perfect result.
I have already heard tiny sound samples of the Wiegleb with IR, where one is left breathless with enthusiasm (there is no release date yet, dear reader).

Regards

Hello vpo-organist,
sorry, but I have to disappoint you: It's not a baroque organ, and it's not my intention to offer a dry version. The church, where the organ is located, has a huge acoustics (6 - 7 seconds reverb), and I want to save it as good as possible, including sampled tremulants.

I have also read the article, but I don't share the opinion of my colleague.
Best regards
Thomas
