Laptop audio for Hauptwerk 6 with a portable keyboard?

PostFri Jan 21, 2022 11:11 am

I'm thinking about buying a laptop with Windows 11 to use for small Hauptwerk organs on vacation trips. I'd use it with headphones and a Yamaha NP32 keyboard (lightweight for hauling around).

Since I need a touch screen, a Macbook isn't an option.

16 GB is enough RAM for the samplesets I would use with one keyboard. But 16 GB and touchscreen makes an expensive laptop, so I might have to decide not to do it.

What's the latest on using the built in sound card for headphones on, say, a new Dell XPS or Inspiron laptop with ASIO4ALL? Do I still need an external audio interface?

An example I'm looking at has a Realtek ALC3254.

Thank you.

Perhaps you could use Duet Displayhttps://www.duetdisplay.com/ (or similar) and use an ipad as a small touch screen for your portable rig.

If you're only using a single keyboard, why not use the built in sounds and just practice notes?
The keyboard only has 32 notes, so why go thru all the setup hassle?
MY 2 cents

Just tested the Yamaha NP32 with my main Hauptwerk setup. Very fun to have older English organs, like Davis from Silver Octopus, go to low GG on the manual without running out of keys.

I ordered a Dell Inspiron 14 2-in-1 with AMD Ryzen 7 5700U, 16 GB, and 512 GB SSD for this. And a MOTU M4. Decent CPU power for the price, if not a great screen and keyboard.
