Recommendation re CPU choice - iMac 27"

I am about to order a new iMac 27" to be a dedicated Hauptwerk resource. It will have a 2tb SSD and 128gb RAM (using OWC ram).

I am not sure of which processor to select:

3.8GHz 8-core 10th generation Intel Core i7 processor with Turbo Boost up to 5.0GHz
or
3.6GHz 10-core 10th generation Intel Core i9 processor with Turbo Boost up to 5.0GHz

The upgrade is AUD $600.

With this purchase I have focussed on maximising the RAM and a decent sized SSD and up to now have always understood the processing power of an i7 would be fine.

With reading about the audio enhancements within HW VI where by selecting the higher definition option it is more CPI intensive, I am wondering now if I should just spend the extra money and be done with it. This is a Mac which I expect to last at least 5 years so that when you prorate it over 5 years it is only $120 per year - but the other side is - Where do you stop?

Hello John,

Since the base clock speeds are very similar, I would expect the 10-core one to give significantly higher performance in terms of polyphony (which could of course be especially useful if you want to use the CPU-intensive audio engine options in v6).

Whether that's worth the extra cost or not, I'll have to leave to you!
