Output allocation within groups choices...

PostSun Sep 20, 2020 11:39 am

How do I choose the best output allocation with groups setting?

My system has 4 stereo groups--one group for each organ division: Great, Pedal, Positive, and Swell.

Setting the output allocation within groups...

How does one choose the best output allocation within groups setting?
What are the pros and cons of each setting?
I couldn't find a discussion of this in the 4.2.1 Users Guide.

Hello seh52,

I've merged your two topics on this together, and moved them here. Given that you're using v4 (which is only officially supported for people who bough a licence for it less than 12 months ago) I'll have to leave it to others to reply/discuss in depth, but I imagine you'll get various opinions on preferences for algorithms in this section of the forum.

Very briefly: algorithms only make any difference if you have more than one audio output in the relevant group. If you search the forum for 'algorithms' or 'algorithm' you'll find quite a few discussions. E.g. my reply in this topic explains what the algorithms do: viewtopic.php?f=17&t=16088&p=120807#p120807

I'd suggest just trying each one to see which one(s) you prefer.
Best regards, Martin.

Thanks, Martin.

A note of caution:

After using one output allocation setting for many years, I became curious about comparing it with other settings, so I chose a different setting for an organ. The change required a re-cache of the organ. I couldn't tell a difference in the sound, so I returned to the original setting. Returning to the original setting required another organ re-cache loading.

Only then did I discover that changing the setting for one organ had changed it for all 100 organs in my system, and that they all must be re-cached. This will take about 50 hours.

Oops!

Thanks, seh52.

Yes -- that's normal and expected in Hauptwerk v4. (v5 eliminates the need to re-cache anything when changing any audio settings, and allows them to be changed in real-time.)
