VI AUDIO FLOW

PostWed Jan 13, 2021 12:21 am

Folks,

EDIT 5-20-21 -- A VIDEO TUTORIAL CAN NOW BE FOUND ON MY WEBSITE:
https://www.drewworthen.com/post/hauptwerk-multi-channel-audio

END OF EDIT...

It took me a while to figure out the audio flow through V and VI. (I jumped from 4 to VI recently, so there was a bit of a learning curve for me in getting multichannel setup....)

The new layout seems intimidating at first but after pounding my head on the wall for a while, I figured it all out, and it is pretty cool!!

That said, I felt a handy "flow chart" would be EXTREMELY helpful to me, so I sat down and wrote this all out for myself so I could remember what to do in the future when I decide to (inevitably) change up a few things.

Don't forget the audio Preset you're working on. Outside of that, I hope this handy flow chart is helpful to anyone who suffered from the same confusion I did.

Thanks very much, Drew.

I've moved your topic here and made it 'sticky' so that people can find it easily in the future.

Hi Drew,

Thank you so much for this. I will be moving from stereo to multi-channel for the first time, using version VI. Would it be possible to get larger versions of your audio workflow images? I'm finding it very challenging to read the print on some of them.

Thank you,
Lawrence

You should be able to click on the image, which SHOULD take you to a website where you can download the image in full resolution. If this doesn’t work for you, message me through my website, and I’ll send it that way.

Thanks so much, Drew.

I had success by clicking on the icon on the bottom (previously hadn't scrolled down) which allowed me to enlarge and then do select print screens of each image.

I'm a visual learner, so your images will be SO helpful. I really appreciate you sharing this :-)

Drew, I add my appreciation to the sentiments expressed earlier. Your posts are always interesting and helpful.

Would you ever consider a video explaining this topic? This is probably the area that generates the most confusion among HW users. Just a thought.

As I research the HW5/6 mixer I'm beginning to realize it's somewhat like assembling IKEA furniture.

The first time it's tough and you're very dependent on the instructions but once you've assembled that first item, then you get it, and can pretty much continue without the instructions (or confusion).

This morning I figured out how to apply reverb to only one perspective (just stereo right now, whilst waiting for new audio interface and upgrading to multi-channel).

It took quite a bit of effort, following the directions from the user guide, some experimentation but in the end I was successful!

The sound is better, and I will now make this change for my other organs, without having to consult the user guide anymore.

Well thank you. I'm glad to help where I can. I truly love Hauptwerk, and love the possibilities it affords us all.

I can make a video if people find it helpful. It's a good idea.

Time is hard to come by for me, though, and what "free" time I get it typically taken up by other Hauptwerk projects. Surely there's someone out there who actually makes better use of all these features than I do who could do some actual demos with their different configurations?

I forced myself to learn this when trying to help a friends (new to HW) setup his new theater organ. I built the computer for him, and loaded the samples, then set up his interface..... My personal home rig (Op. 2 - https://www.drewworthen.com/opus-2) only uses headphones.

The organ at GUMC (Op. 1 - https://www.drewworthen.com/opus-1) is still running v4.

I PERSONALLY don't have an instrument running V or VI that ALSO has a mutlichannel setup. I feel like I have a good understanding of how it all works, though.

Ok, everyone, here is a video tutorial of the "basic" process.

I decided to start a blog on my website devoted to various Hauptwerk-related subjects. Feel free to message me and suggest videos/topics.
