I'm a big fan of audio but not a true audiophile by definition. I believe you can get to a certain threshold of having great sound then the law of diminishing returns sets in.
I get asked on occasion for Hauptwerk audio recommendations. With regards to subwoofers, I assume at some point you want to produce a 32' pipe sound in the lower octave. My canned response has been:
- a custom build like the TubaHT or HouseWrecker whose plans are easy accessible from the internet.
- maybe an older sub from Allen (B40 unit) or the Rodgers P series
- active subs from SVS or Rythmik Audio.
Now I can add the Monolith series from Monoprice. Monoprice has been mentioned here on the forum in the past. They developed an upscale audio line called Monolith to help distance themselves from the consumer perceived "Monoprice" brand. The crowning beast in this lineup is the M-215. Appropriately named as it has dual 15" drivers and 1000 watts which achieves 10hz at 92db!! Looking for a sub that will fill a large space for your Hauptwerk organ build? This is it! Yes it has an expected price to match this capability.

I am very excited to see this choice for those of use who want the best possible sound but lack the wood working skills and or tools needed to build a massive custom sub.
Here is a comparison of the top of the line SVS to the M215 with REW chart readings on both.
