Choosing between monitors: Adam t7v, t8v vs 2031a, E8xt?

PostSun Feb 07, 2021 9:24 am

This is a question of active monitors, i need help choosing. I have a small room 4X4,5 M. Plan to add a sub later. maybe a Rhytmik.

I cant go to a shop to listen to them now because of C19, it is so difficult to now what to choose from! Some questions:

1. Should i have 5’ instead of 8’. I have listed 7’ and 8’ but are they to big for my room?
2. If choosing the Adam which i have heard is an excellent speaker especially their clarity and not being fatiguing for the ear. But should i choose the t7v or the t8v?
3. Are the Adams ”better” than the 2031a or the e8xt? Or If someone knows what are the differences?

Thanks in advance!

Best regards,

Hello, my room has similar dimensions, I have first bought 2 Presonus Eris E5XT and Temblor T10 woofer, but as I can't put the speakers in a optimal place because the console is in a corner in mezzanine with lot of doors and staircase, the sound was not good with harmonic distorsion. I have finally extended the number of channels with a Motu 24AO and I'm using now in addition 4 pairs of presonus E 3.5 . The 8 presonus are just in front of me, the other 2 E5 behind . With Hauptwerk VI the harmonic distorsion is totally absent in Plein-Jeu. I'm happy with this choice and as you I had no opportunity to test before buying...

Thank you JMG for the reply,

I have looked at the T10 as an option, may i ask you if it can handle lower pitches of 32’?

For me, in the room's volume it's enough for vibrations of doors ! And this not at full sound level ! I've never have the chance to play a real 32' for a long time and it was years ago, so my reference for judging is weak ! I just can say that it's enough for me and for the room !

There’s not much point trying to get a good 32’ sound in a small room. A 32 foot sound wave needs quite a bit of room to develop. In addition, what our ears perceive as a 32’ wave also has to do a lot with the first few harmonics, which are covered by a less powerful sub. That being said, the temblor has been recommended as a good sub for Hauptwerk before. Anything with good power in the lower registers will be convincing, even if it doesn’t go all the way down to a true 32’ frequency.

Thank you JmG,

That surely seems well enough! Think i will start going with Adam t8v. And perhaps a Temblor later on then!

Yes, a special organ dedicated room with perfect accoustics would be needed i suppose! Olivier Latrys
seems fitting! https://youtu.be/vDs4zyUFj_o

I would cross the 2031a off your list unless you don't mind waiting for quite a while. There has been nearly no inventory in the US for the past 7 months, and nobody seems to know when it will return.
