Help with first time setting up Hauptwerk

PostTue Nov 03, 2009 4:31 pm

I am sorry if this is somewhat of a repeat of questions but I need some help with my first time setting up a Hauptwerk system.

My current situation:

I have a Yamah 88 key P-120S. I have connected it to a Midisport 4x4 Anniversary Edition MIDI Interface which is hooked up to my Dell Windows XP Home edition 2002 SP2 laptop. I am using MID-315 Red 15 foot MIDI cables to connect all this.
I am using the Hauptwerk Free Edition and the St. Anne's 1907 organ that comes with it.

My current dilema:

When I first set this up I found that only the 30 pedals on the St. Anne's organ on the computer would play. I then experimented with the different buttons on the Yamah keyboard itself and found that the "Spit" button gave me the first 18 bottom notes on the Great manual. I kept trying different combinations of the buttons till I found that any combination of 2 of the "Instrument" buttons (the buttons that give me different instruments sounds on the keyboard) would give me full range of the great manual and the 30 pedals together. My questions are:

1. I just want to use my keyboard to use the Great manual on the organ not both the great and the pedals at the same time just the great. How would I do this? I have tried all different button and MIDI In outlet combinations (the system only operates when I have the MIDI cables in the "A In" outlet of the Interface)

2. How would I be able to use the Swell manual from my keyboard (I haven't had any luck with that yet)

3. I plan to eventually upgrade to the Classic Organ Works AGO pedal board. I would like to use that with my current keyboard as a starting Hauptwerk Organ how could I put those two together?

If anyone can help with my problem I would be most appreciative.

Thanks,

Download the Hauptywerk User's Guide, here(this is a large file, so will
take a few minutes, perhaps))

http://www.hauptwerk.com/clientuploads/ ... rGuide.pdf

Scroll way down, to just past half-way thrugh the entire document.
You will come to a section titled "Connecting Organ keyboards...."
or some similar language. Read that and follow in detail. You
will soon have your Swell, Great, and Pedal keys also
connected and plahying.

I would give more details, but using the "weird" Win7
OS on this machine, and unlike previous XP or Vista,
I cannot minimize what I have typed here, copy a bit more from
the User's manual and also insert it; another SERIOUS
shortcoming for Win7, at least in my opinion! If it is
possiblde, would someone who has found how,
please explain.

Hello Jim

Once you get used to Win 7, I bet you'll love it!
Minimize the window as in XP (top right of the screen)
To get it back, point the mouse at the Internet Explorer symbol on the task bar. You'll see a miniature of the page you minimized. Click on the miniature to restore the page.

If you don't have the browser icon on the task bar, right click on it in the program list and select "pin to taskbar". If you look at a summary of what Win 7 can do, you'll find it has better and more ways of controlling windows than previous versions.

Same as Vista.

Yes, BUT..............

Ok, with that page of HW minimized, how do I get to another load of HW
again, that is open a second copy of HW?

That was easy with XP; in fact, you could have several instances of HW, or
any other URL, but apparently NOT using Win7. So...

If acually possible, how? When I try doing as you describe, yes HW opens again,
but that minimized page is GONE at least I could find no way to recover it.
BTW, the lost page was actually a partially complete Forum response on
which I eas working, not just any HW page, if that makes a difference.

Jim,
The Internet Browser that you use makes a difference. Windows 7 comes with Internet Explorer version 8... and has a different taskbar behavior (much improved by my estimation). In Internet Explorer 8 you can open multiple TABS as well and multiple WINDOWS... but each one of these (whether tab or window) will show as a separate taskbar element as you hover over the Internet Explorer icon on the Taskbar.
If you are having trouble getting used to Internet Explorer 8, perhaps you should give Firefox a try?
