Different pitch info in different HW-versions

PostTue Mar 08, 2022 2:40 pm

Hello all,
I still develop my samplesets with HW IV. For testing purposes I also load them in VII to play the stops on the console. The ODF of my samplesets is always configured to read the pitch from the samples. Now I have noticed that my soon to be released sampleset has in HW IV 443,2 Hz, but in HW VII 441 Hz.

Is there a technical explanation for the different pitches? Thanks in advance.
Best regards
Thomas

Hello Thomas,

The behaviour in v7 is unchanged since v4.2.0:

- As long as you have specified the _General.AudioEngine_BasePitchHz attribute in your organ definition then Hauptwerk will always use that as the default for the user's base pitch setting when the user first loads that organ. It's recommended that you specify that attribute for any sample set being released for v4.2.0 and above.

- If you haven't specified it then, when the user first loads that organ, for backwards compatibility with sample sets released for v4.1 and earlier, Hauptwerk will try to estimate the default base pitch, based on the average pitches of the samples for whichever ranks the user has loaded. Hence the value may vary if the user loads less than the full set of ranks.

- Once the user has loaded the organ at least once his/her base pitch setting will continue to override whatever is in the ODF, so if you subsequently make changes to the pitches in the ODF or samples then you must use the 'Design tools | Load organ (with design options): Reset organ preferences ...' option so that the changed ODF values are picked up.

Here's another topic about it:
