Dear Friends,

Today we released our long expected product - eStop.

http://midiboutique.com/estop

It is functionally same as previosuly released iStop, but this one has e-paper display (EPD).
This is the MIDI control unit which you needed to build stop jambs with "live stop labels".
It serves as live label controller and stop encoder-decoder/driver simultaneously.
It can also be used as simple live label withut stop control in systems where Stop control has been already implemented.

It can work with SAM/SDK solenoid-operated stop switches as well as with lighted momentary pistons.

When working with SAM/SDK switch:
- Upon Stop On/Off command received from Hauptwerk (for example on preset recall), eStop unit will move the SAM/SDK switch to proper position to reflect the new stop status.
- Upon manual change of SAM/SDK switch, eStop unit will send to Hauptwerk status update message.

When working with lighted piston or combination of momentary switch and LED:
- Upon Stop On/Off command received from Hauptwerk (for example on preset recall), eStop unit will update the status of the LED to reflect the stop status.
- Upon manual piston/switch actuation, eStop unit will send to Hauptwerk status update message.

eStop supports Hauptwerk text message protocol so that it can be updated upon loading each sampleset to actual stop name.
Unlike LCD, in EPD displayed text remains there unil next update, even if no power is applied.

Each eStop unit has three essential parameters to make it unique within same Hauptwerk installation:
- Hauptwerk Display Panel ID;
- Stop Channel;
- Stop Note.

The EPD display will respond to Hauptwerk text message addressed to its ID.
The Stop will respond to Stop Note on Stop Channel when controlled by Hauptwerk and will send Stop Note on Stop Channel when manually operated.

All parameters are uploaded to eStop by device-specific SysEx messages.
We have developed free Windows utility for this purpose, but since the SysEx format is open, the unit can be configured using third-party software, sequencers etc.

Last but not least: eStop is chainable. Many units can be chained on single MIDI line, so that entire set has common MIDI input and MIDI output.
This would greatly simplify the wiring and installation.

The display is probably the one described at http://forum.hauptwerk.com/viewtopic.php?f=22&t=14958&p=116021&hilit=+istop+#p116021.

Looks like a good product.

We are getting many questions about the physical dimensions of eStop.

That is why we prepared and uploaded 3D drawing of eStop, including its dimensions.
The file format is PDF3D. You can see interactive 3D model inside, allowing rotation in any direction, zooming, panning etc.
It is available in product page under "Product Download" tab.

NOTE: The PDF3D file format is readable by recent versions of Adobe Reader.
You should first save it locally, then open it in Acrobat.
If you try to open it directly in browser, it may not work.
At least it does not work for me with Chrome.
I guess the other browsers won't show it as well.
But Acrobat Reader will.

I think the user manual for eStop on the MB website is not quite correct. In some places it describes the iStop device rather than the eStop. For example on page 3 where it talks about the SysEx message for displaying the data - it says that only 16 characters will be displayed - I understood this is not the case. The file title shown in the Acrobat reader is "iStop user manual" not "eStop user manual"

See http://forum.hauptwerk.com/viewtopic.php?f=22&t=14958&p=116021&hilit=+istop+#p116021 which I think describes the display characteristics.

No doubt Jordan will update the documentation on their website soon.

It looks like a great product!

Iain

Thanks Ian,

Indeed, since eStop is about same thing as iStop (except display type and capabilities of course), its User Manual is based on iStop User Maual. I will review and correct it ASAP.
