[SOLVED] Issue using 96kHz sample rate in HW6

PostThu Mar 04, 2021 11:01 am

Hi all!

I've upgraded to HW6.0.2 recently and wanted to try the 96kHz feature.

Result:
- Only 1 out of the 4 expected channels did produce sound.

Could it be that I should revise the audio routing in HW? I must say I'm a bit lost regarding HW audio routing (I was proud to have setup myself my surround sound back when I got HW5 but it seems so long ago now...).
Or could it be a limitation in Mixtuur's sound card?

My setup:
- HW 6.0.2
- Windows 10
- Mixtuur console with proprietary ASIO-driven sound card (8 output channels)
- 2x stereo outputs to surround amplifier (4 active channels).

Bonjour Jean,

You're saying that by switching to 96kHz only 1 out of 4 channels is playing. I presume that at 48kHz all 4 were working then. If you reverb back to 48kHz are your 4 channels back? Have you checked your physical connection and your surround amplifier settings. Some has surround processing modes who can change the audio result. If it is a Home Theatre amplifier/processor/receiver then we usually select "Direct mode" (no processing) for Hauptwerk.

Switching sample rate doesn't affect the audio routing. I have no idea of the interface used in your console. I know that some will have limitations (less channels) when increasing the sample rate, but from 4 to 1 I would be surprised. From 4 to 2 would make more sense.

Can you confirm that reverting to 48kHz brings back all your channels? Do you know the brand and model of your audio interface? You may want to send me a diagnostic file (In Hauptwerk go to Help | Create a diagnostic... and email it to me at support [at] hauptwerk.com

Cher François,

What happens more precisely is that, when I activate the 96kHz playback function, sound from front ranks goes mainly to my rear-left speaker, plus a bit (at low level) to my rear-right speaker. That's why I thought only 1 speaker was active. Nothing is output by the front speakers, no surround rank is output at all. (tested that by playing with the stop levels in HW)

When I revert to 48kHz, everything goes back to normal.

I've received an answer from Mixtuur this morning and they say their audio interface does not support this 96kHz playback feature.

I'm sending you the required diagnostic file just in case it can shed some light on my environment.

Thanks for you time!
