It does seem to be a connection problem with the speakers, internally. I would suggest pulling any connectors between board and tweeter, de-oxit tags, slightly squeeze connectors that clamp and put back together and see if it makes a difference. If not, re-heat any solder joints in the treble amp that are subject to stress (weight/vibration/heat: heavier components vibrate more inside speaker enclosures and tend to crack solder joints. Normally melting them fixes this for a few years. If the pad has broken at the joint to the track, solder a wire bridge between them.)
That should make them good as new. (Much cheaper than replacing them!!!!!)
