Controlling external rank of pipes

PostTue Sep 12, 2023 10:35 pm

Hi Forum,
I’m using HW8 on a Rodgers 925 Oxford with 9 ranks of real pipes. Is there an easy way to control these pipes within a sample set (currently using Rosales) without losing one of the virtual ranks (by having the virtual rank control the MIDI Out for the external rank). For example, I’d like to essentially add another stop tab to control the external ranks. I have played around with the Custom Organ Design Module files but this seems like a lot of work to replicate an organ like the Rosales only to add a few ranks of pipes. Curious what others may have done. Thanks!

Hello Wolfman591,

Welcome to the forum.

I think your options would be:

1. Configure MIDI output from one of the sample set's existing virtual ranks (using "Organ settings | Advanced MIDI ... | Direct MIDI input/output for ranks/pipes", and probably also set that particular virtual rank not to be loaded (via "Organ | Load organ, adjusting rank ... options"). However, that would involve sacrificing a virtual rank, as you mentioned. Or:

2. Use the Custom Organ Design Module (CODM) to create your own organ definition from scratch.

3. If the organ definition isn't encrypted, you could perhaps see whether you could commission Jake (forum user subbas32) to create a customised, extended version of the existing organ definition for you:

Mike,

I will add one other option to Martin's excellent list:

The Rodgers 925 is, as I recall, capable of controlling multiple ranks of pipes directly. You can check with your local Rodgers dealer. It may be possible to connect your pipes to Rodgers stop controls without having to modify your Hauptwerk sample set.
