Sample set - 'can't load image file' - stops the process

PostSun Jun 13, 2021 7:50 pm

Hi all,

I nearly have everything working successfully apart from one glitch when I am trying to install the Paramount organ sample sets on a portable drive attached to my MacBook Pro. (The default St. Anne's organ is installed without any problem).

Everything is fine until nearly the last point in the Paramount installation where this message comes up. How do I fix this one?

Could not load the image file/Volumes/SR Sample Sets/Hauptwerk/HauptwerkSampleSetsAndComponetns/OrganInstallataion Packages/001115/ParamountImages/paramountsm.png

Message code for diagnostic purposes: 4402

(where SR Sample Sets is my location on my hard drive for the Hauptwerk installation)

Cheers for any advice.

Good evening,

It seems that the file "Paramountsm.png" is missing or corrupted. Just to clarify you are getting this error while installation the organ packages right?

Also, it is that you install all the latest version of the Paramount. Don't forget to install/re-install the latest installation packages for the 310, 320, 332 & 450.

You can try to re-install the organ package. If you still get the error, re-download the file and try to install again with the newly downloaded file.
Best regards

Yes I tried the downloading of the RAR file again after deleting any components within Hauptwerk.
The Milan website also states that unlike the other models, the Paramount 341 does not require any software of other models - it is self contained.

Hello Stuart,

I recall there used to be a bug in the Paramount sample sets that could give that error depending on what was installed:

viewtopic.php?f=6&t=11824&p=87342

Although that post is from 2013, in case it still applies, please try:

- Use 'File | Un-install ...' to un-install each of the Paramount data packages.

- Download the current (v5+) versions of the Paramount 310 and 341 from here: viewtopic.php?f=10&t=17947

- Install the download Paramount 310.

- Install the 341.
Best regards, Martin.

Hello Martin,

Thanks again - you jogged my memory on that one too. I'll give it a try.
Given that the download page suggests the 341 does not require prior installation of the others, is your suggestion still valid?

Or do I understand if the other sample sets don't have a glitch in the image then that good image will remain in your system, bypassing the dodgy installation in the standalone 341 samples:

For the P310/P320/P332/P450 series ensure that you install in that order – Paramount 310 first followed by any further sample sets that you have. You do not need to do this for the Paramount 341

Will report back!

Thanks, Stuart.

I don't know off-hand exactly what the bug in the ODF/packages was/is, but at the very least it won't hurt to try what I suggested.

If that doesn't solve it, it's probably best to contact Paramount directly.
Best regards, Martin.

Thanks Martin,

Tried your suggested steps - but still get the same issue.
I have just sent an email to Paramount.

Just playing around with the install of the 310.
Even that has a problem right at the end where it also couldn't load an image file.

Hello Stuart,

Correct. Posting the exact text of email addresses on forums might risk getting spam (since spam-bots scan forums for email addresses), so when posting emailing addresses it's considered safer to post them in a form that people will understand without actually being the exact text. (I'll edit your reply to remove that text now, for good measure.)
Best regards, Martin.

Thanks, Stuart. No problem.

Actually, Francois asked me about something in your diagnostic file, and I've just tried installing the Paramount 341 to have a quick look at what image files get installed, and I'm pretty certain what the problem will be:

Your error was:

"Could not load the image file /Volumes/SR Sample Sets/Hauptwerk/HauptwerkSampleSetsAndComponetns/OrganInstallataion Packages/001115/ParamountImages/paramountsm.png"

... whereas the actual image file that the 341 package installs in that folder is named:

Paramountsm.png

... i.e. the case of the first letter of the filename in the ODF is technically incorrect (should be uppercase, to correspond with the filename of the file that the package includes). That will only be a problem on Macs that were installed with the (non-default) case-sensitive file system option. Here's the excerpt from the Hauptwerk 'Storage (hard-disk or SSD)' subsection of the Hauptwerk prerequisites (page 15 in the v6.0.2 user guide):

"If you are installing Apple macOS from scratch (not usually required), we recommend using the default file system during installation, and avoiding the 'case sensitive' file system (a custom installation option) since some Hauptwerk sample sets might not be compatible with it."

Assuming that you did indeed install the operating with a case-sensitive file-system, there would effectively be two options:

1. Contact Paramount's makers (pointing them to this post), to see whether they plan to produce patches for the sample sets (341 and 310, but may well be others) to correct the filename cases. However, even if they were to do that, you might well encounter sample sets from other makers that have the same issues, since some sample set makers only use Windows (which is always case-insensitive). Hence probably the only realistic option is:

2. Wipe/re-format the drive, instead selecting a non-case-sensitive file system option for it. (You would then need to re-run the Hauptwerk installer, and re-install sample sets, etc.)
Best regards, Martin.

Thanks Martin and also Francois,

You've probably hit the nail on the head!
I know how particular operating systems can be about file naming conventions.
My portable drive was formatted as APFS (case sensitive)

So I will re format it - just as APFS.

Now, not quite a Hauptwerk question, but can you suggest is there any way to back up (copy) my 600GB of BBC Symphony orchestra samples which are on that same drive without having to start from scratch.

Cheers again
Stuart
