I'm not aware of any way on Macs to change a drive's file system without wiping all data on it, I'm afraid. (You could potentially copy all needed data from it to another drive first, of course.)

I've used Carbon Copy Cloner from Bombich Software for years. A great product.

Martin your solution is correct. No installation problems on an APFS (non case sensitive) drive.
Something worthy for Mac users to be aware of in how they format their drives!
