Re: Hauptwerk ceased to recognize newly installed shoe.

Hello Ernest,

With Hauptwerk not running, if you're using Windows, try running MIDI-OX ( http://www.midiox.com/ ), or if using a Mac try Snoize MIDI Monitor ( https://www.snoize.com/midimonitor/ ).

They will show you the MIDI messages that your expression pedal is sending to the computer. If it's working properly, it should be sending MIDI Control Change messages as you move it, all on the same MIDI channel and all on the same MIDI controller number, with just the controller value varying across the compass of the pedal.
Best regards, Martin.

Thanks, Ernest.

Provided that when you conducted the test with MIDI-OX you had your MIDI console/shoe connected to a computer MIDI IN port, and that you had the relevant MIDI IN port enabled in MIDI-OX (highlighted in its 'MIDI Inputs' pane on its 'Options | MIDI Devices' screen), and assuming that your computer's MIDI interface is working in general, then yes -- the problem must be external to the computer, i.e. a hardware issue somewhere.

I would suggest swapping the connections to the two swell shoes. If the new shoe works on the input for the existing shoe, and the existing shoe doesn't work when substituted for the new, that would point to a defective midi encoder input.

Thank you Martin and rayjcar for your reply and assistance. I will review your suggestions more in depth, and a first opportunity and will retrace my steps.
