Software sunddenly sending MIDI NOTE OFF/OFF

PostThu Nov 18, 2021 1:12 pm

All of the keyboards (3) and expression pedals work fine. But now after working for years, the Pipe Stops are sending a MIDI NOTE OFF/OFF instead of ON/OFF. I need to correct this ASAP as this is a church installation. Please help. Thank you!

Good afternoon,

Not sure exactly what you are referring to. My understanding is when you trigger a virtual stop (on/off) the MIDI messages transmitted are "MIDI note OFF/OFF" instead of ON or OFF). Or are you triggering a "Physical stop" (on your console) and it is sending OFF/OFF to Hauptwerk. If this is the case, then the program is with your console programming (not related to Hauptwerk)

For good measure power everything (computer, console, audio/MIDI/USB interface/hardware. and see if this clear the problem.

If what you are talking about is using a virtual switch to control some external components, then load Hauptwerk and the St-Anne orgam . Program one of the virtual stops the same way you programmed it (for another sample set I guess) an see if you can reproduce the problem. If so, then send me a diagnostic file (Help | Create a diagnostic.. ) and email it to support [at] hauptwerk.com . Specify which stop you programmed in St-Anne.

Feel free to provide additional information to clarify exactly your setup, what you're trying to do etc.

Hope that helps.
Best regards
François

They are virtual stop switches on touchscreen monitors that turn on real pipe stops (Great, Swell, Positiv & Pedal divisions) that suddenly quit working. All of the digital (sample set) stops are still working normally. But there's only a few of them, so not enough to use the organ in its current state. When a virtual switch for the real pipes is touched the indicators (dots) in the bottom right corner shows MIDI Note Off/Off. This also occurs when you go into the settings and test the switch. "Test On" sends Note Off and so does "Test Off." The 3 manuals, pedalboard, Crescendo & Swell Expression pedals all show Note On/Off and work normally. It's only the real pipe stops that suddenly experienced this problem. The entire system has been in place for several years and all of the other components are working as they should.

Thanks for your time and help on this!

Hello djdubya,

Even if you've already tried this, please try shutting everything down then completely removing the mains power (switch it off at the wall) to absolutely *all* of your computer, MIDI, USB, console, etc. equipment, including any audio/MIDI interfaces, USB hubs, etc.

Wait at least 60 seconds for good measure, then turn the power back on to everything, then boot the computer and log in to the operating system, then wait at least 2 minutes (to make sure the operating system and drivers have had plenty of time to finish booting) before launching Hauptwerk.

(Maybe a MIDI interface is misbehaving, for example, and rebooting its firmware by removing power to it might fix it, or maybe a MIDI driver's MIDI stream is corrupted, which rebooting the computer might solve.)

If that doesn't solve it:

- Load the St. Anne's organ.

- Make sure that one of its virtual stops is configured to send MIDI output in the way that you would normally use for controlling your external real pipe stops.

- Temporarily turn on the 'Diagnostics: log all MIDI messages ...' option on the 'General settings | General preferences | Advanced ..' screen tab. OK the screen.

- Without touching anything, wait at least 15 seconds (so that the relevant events can be identified clearly by their timestamps).

- Without touching anything else (so as to minimise unrelated messages being logged), click on that virtual stop to turn it on.

- Wait at least 15 seconds.

- Without touching anything else, click on the virtual stop again to turn it off.

- Without touching anything else, use 'Help | Create a diagnostic file' and send that file to Francois. That will show the MIDI events that Hauptwerk sent and received as turned the virtual stop on, and then off again. (It will also show Francois which stop it was, and what your MIDI settings were for that stop.)
Best regards, Martin.
