Upgrade from v5 to v6 (or 7)

PostMon Apr 18, 2022 5:16 pm

I am currently running version 5. I purchased "Upgrade Advanced v5 to Advance v6 Perpetua"l on November 30, 2020. When attempting to upgrade to v6 last week, it appears the only version which is available for download is v7. Is version 6 no longer available? I don't mind upgrading to v7, and am assuming I'd need to pay a fee to upgrade from v6 to v7, however I am not sure how to go about this process since my current system only has v5 installed and I am not able to upgrade to the v6 that I purchased. Thanks in advance for any help with this.

Sincerely,
Christian Elliott

HW 7 is the only version available.

It shouldn't matter that you don't have HW 6 installed. You can install HW 7 on a machine with HW 5 or even without Hauptwerk at all.

In any case, you'll want to preserve your settings by making a backup under the File menu of HW 5, then restore it in HW 7 later.

You buy the 6 -> 7 upgrade, get the activation code by email and redeem it in iLok, download HW 7, and install it. Details are in the first few chapters of the HW 7 Installation and User Guide, and you'll want to follow the upgrade instructions. It's not nearly as hard as going from 4 to 5.

Hello Christian,

Thanks very much for considering upgrading to v7. To add to Mark's reply (thanks very much as always, Mark), if you were to buy a v6->v7 Advanced Edition upgrade:

- There's no need to install the Hauptwerk v6 software first -- just run the v7 installer instead (which will upgrade your existing v5 software installation to v7).

- Also download and install the latest version of iLok License Manager (iLM).

- You would need to activate your v6 licence in iLM, during which iLM will require that you select you v5 licence to 'surrender' (exchange for it).

- Once that's done, you would then activate your v7 licence in iLM, surrendering the v6 licence.
Best regards, Martin.

Thank you, Martin and Mark, for the information. I appreciate the heads up on needing to activate the v6 license in iLM before activating v7. I will now attempt to purchase the v6 to v7 Advanced Edition upgrade and proceed. I'm relieved to know that this upgrade will not be as complex as it was going from v4 to v5. Thanks again!

iLok manager is requiring that I surrender Hauptwerk Advanced Edition V6 in order to activate V7, however I only have V5 to surrender. It is therefore not letting me activate v7. I'm not sure what to try next.

"One of more licenses to surrender cannot be found in your account." Apparently because it is looking for V6 to surrender.

I had forgotten that I had purchased v6 and had an activation code for it. Francois helped me with this and the matter is resolved. Thank you.
