Sharing midi port ?

PostSun Mar 19, 2023 3:02 pm

Hello all,
On my new PC, I can't make both Sibelius and Hauptwerk work together...
On my old computer (win7), it was ok with my old midi interface (Edirol UM3)
but I had to buy a new Midi interface because there is no Edirol driver for Win 10/11 !.
My new Midi interface is a Miditech Midiface 2x2 (not expensive and no driver needed)
My purpose is to use Sibelius to edit scores, using my Hoffrichter keyboards with HW organ sounds.
(as it worked before...)

If I run Sibelius first, here is the error message in HW :
"could not open MIDI IN port, the port is used by another program.
There is not enough memory availabale for this task. code 7"

If I run HW first, I can't assign the available devices in Sibelius, (the midi interface) to use midi ...

Thank you for your help

Hello,
the Midi ports can only be opened by one program (exclusively) on a (Windows-) PC. With various midi tools you can forward the signal to different ports.

For example, Bome MIDI Translator can make virtual ports for two or more apps to connect while it handles the real port. You'd need to check features on the free version since I'm not sure whether Pro is required.
