Using Alt key adjust rank volume?

PostWed Mar 29, 2023 1:13 pm

I just want to be sure I'm reading it correctly? If I want to adjust the volume of a stop by the same amount for all notes in the stop, do I use the ALT key? For some reason I believe; when I adjusted a (1) rank in a stop using the ALT key, did it affect (change the levels of all stops (or other stop)?
I don't want to risk other fine tuning adjustments that have been made.
Many thanks - and I did do a search first with ALT in keywords but didn't see a thread on the subject.

If you mean Organ settings | Rank voicing (etc), the master slider at the left hand side adjusts all notes of the selected rank(s) equally for the selected voicing/panning/perspective parameter. I don't know why ALT would be used for this.

Because There's a mouse-over that says use the ALT key . I tried that and it did move all of the sliders at their same relative levels. - but does it move only that stop?....

Hello Wayne,

To confirm Mark's reply (and assuming you're referring to the rank voicing screen):

- All that matters when you adjust the screen's sliders is which ranks (and which adjustment) are highlighted at the top of the screen. As is standard for the operating system, you can multi-select several items (ranks) in the rank list at once using the SHIFT key as you click on the rank names, and you can select all of the ranks in the list by pressing Ctrl+A (if using Windows).

- With any given (single) rank (and adjustment) selected, the positions of the note sliders show the current values for each note (for that rank/adjustment), so you can easily check whether the per-note values are set to what you intended (e.g. to check for a different rank that you hadn't accidentally changed it).

- The 'MSTR' slider on the left of the screen affects all of the note sliders equally (for whichever ranks and adjustment you have selected at the top of the screen, as with the per-note sliders).

- Before making any voicing changes you can always use "File | Backup ...", in case you subsequently want to get all settings/voicing back to that point in time.
Best regards, Martin.

Yes -- when dragging a slider it just affects whether the slider movements are absolute or relative.

Using the ALT key when dragging a slider doesn't affect any ranks that aren't selected in the rank list at the top. You can verify by adjusting the slider (with or without ALT) for one rank, then clicking on another rank to check the slider positions.

Ok. Good to know. I 've used the master slider also. Thanks for the confirmation.
