bad sounding sample sets because too perfect

PostTue May 04, 2021 1:17 pm

Thanks Oliver, most kind. I'm glad that the current version has worked for you.

I'm aware that there are several sample sets where my utility misinterprets the rank list format and so doesn't correctly separate the ranks from the perspectives.

Version 1.1 will sort that out, hopefully. It has a predefined, editable list of "perspective prefixes":

church
diffuse
direct
distant
front
front (diffuse)
front (direct)
front (distant)
front rank
front: (diffuse)
front: (direct)
front: (distant)
organ
rear
rear rank
semi-dry

which should cover all those sample sets which are listed in perspective order. There is no problem for sample sets listed in rank name order (where the perspective appears in brackets at the end).

Also, I've added an editable list of exclusions:

action
noise
special
toy
trac
trak

So any ranks containing text in the exclusions list won't be included for detuning.

Version 1.1 will also be able to multi select non-consecutive ranks / perspectives in Hauptwerk's Rank Voicing dialog. The two advantages being:

1) A lot faster overall
2) Will guarantee detuning sync between perspectives (if chosen), even in the event of occasional missed paste actions into the dialog (which is an unfortunate but known issue with the SendKeys function I have to use).

There will also be a separate Windows 7 installer from version 1.1 onwards. I hope to release v1.1 this week.

Thanks.

Best regards

Hi Marco and All

Here is the link containing folders for both versions and updated documentation:

https://1drv.ms/u/s!ArppdH7JT_uasCD2SWaxzH9gIsOr?e=X1FVxe

As I don't have Windows 7 any longer, I can't give any Windows 7 specific support regarding the installation of the utility. Having tried the Windows 7 version installer under Windows 10, all I can confirm is that it installs (differently) and requests a download of .Net 5, as anticipated.

Just a reminder to use Private Message in case of issues or questions.

Hi Andy,

Thank you for this great tool!

The sound became more natural and the organs started to sing
I'll have to finetune a bit as it is sometimes a bit overdone, but that's easy to resolve.

Hi Arjan

Most kind of you to say and I'm glad you've found it useful.

One of benefits of using the Normal Distribution for the detuning is its naturalness. However, there will be a few notes that will be more noticeably "out of tune".

I will be releasing version 1.1.1 soon, which fixes another issue relating to separating the rank name from the perspective layers. For example, the new version will handle the Noordbroek rank list correctly.

Best regards

Version 1.1.1 of my utility is now available:

https://1drv.ms/u/s!ArppdH7JT_uasCD2SWaxzH9gIsOr?e=X1FVxe

As you will see in the release notes, there is now just one installer for Windows 7 - 10.

I now plan on making a Mac version.

That's fantastic!
Would it be compatible with HW 4 and Mac OS X 10.11?
Thank you!

This is a great app.
The results are more natural sounding samplesets.

Thanks Andy
