FCCLA in Version 5 ?

PostMon Nov 25, 2019 8:13 am

The First Congregational Church of Los Angeles (FCCLA) chancel sample set I purchased two years ago is my favorite. It has so many colorful voices that I love. It is no longer offered for sale if I'm not mistaken. I'm glad I purchased it. It has provided days of joy. If I choose to upgrade to Version 5, will I loose the use of the FCCLA sample set?

No, although FCCLA is not available for sale anymore, all current users will receive an HW5 update.

By V update, do you mean that we will need to download and reinstall a V version of the FCCLA organ?
If so, how long will we have to do this?

Yes, you have to download the OrganInstallationPackage files again. Unfortunately, this is the biggest chunk. I assume that CLR / Evensong will also provide an updated ODF.

I request Evensong CLR consider bringing this sample set back to the market if possible for Hauptwerk Version 5. It might be that the new reverb capability would turn this rather dry set into a heavenly sound! I would like more people to enjoy the chancel set like I have. I have got days of pleasure from this set even in its dry state. I know of no other sample set that has as many beautiful Skinner voices. The Flauto Mirabilis is one of the most pure lovely sounds ever! The French Horn is heavenly. I play the clarinet for hours. The Flute Celeste is celestial. Viola Pomposa with the Viola Celeste is par excellence. There is an oboe and English horn that is outstanding. There are plenty of stoped and open flutes that are wonderful with mutations, combinations with octaves, or alone. And of course plenty of robust chorus reeds, as well as ample principals and mixtures. There are more strings on this Organ than ranks on most organs. The harp and celesta are fun. I would continue Hauptwerk if this were the only set I could use I love it so much. Please bring it back. I would like to add the Gospel, Epistle, and Italian divisions.

I, like Ed, just missed the opportunity to order this set when it was still available. I hope that Jonathan will consider reissuing it now that CLR and Evensong have merged.

It’s not so simple as to “consider reissuing it”....

Charlie and I would need to negotiate a new contract from FCCLA and I would want some things contracted differently.

Plus, I would probably want to revisit the raw samples and revamp it.... that took me 3 months on the Redlands set, and that’s only about 1/4 the size of FCCLA...

We have new sets in the pipeline, too...

So, as I said, it’s not as simple as you might think.

Having said that, if there is significant interest, we may consider the idea (but not until the dust settles after the release of HW-V, and probably not before early 2020)

Thanks for the comments, though - it’s nice to hear what people are thinking.

That's heartening and good thinking on your part. Esp about the "dust", etc.

That's encouraging. How do you determine the level of interest, I wonder?

At least the "interest door" has been opened if even only a small amount.
This is a huge, very unique organ, might be a consideration for Drew's new 5 M.

For starters, here is a interesting demo video to give an idea about this organ:

and then another, a spectacular concert featuring among others, Fred Swann
playing this wonderful, mammoth of some 18,000 pipes instrument:

I gauge interest by watching the forum, Facebook, and taking note of private requests about it.

There is a bit of interest, so that is interesting....

Couple of things to consider - the set utilized direct recordings (recorded pretty close to the pipes), but at the same time, more remote recording perspective was done as well. At the time the set was released, it was felt the remote perspective consumed a bit too much memory, so it was not included or processed.

Secondly, it would be pretty simple to schedule a follow-up session, and get impulse responses for use in HW-V, so the added work of prepping the remote samples might not be necessary.

All of this is pure speculation right now... the mere thought of editing samples with Advent on my horizon and plenty of work at my “real” job needing my attention gives me hives.

There seems to be the "will" and you no doubt know the "way".
I would hazard a guess that there aren't a great number of us that
can "house" that huge an organ, but since it actually is a combined
instrument (to date) of 5 separate organs, could "chunks" of it be
made available such as has been done with other large Hauptwerk
organs, each being individually, so called, complete instruments?

Agree with waiting for Version 5 plus the holidays to be completed,
works. OTOH, "pre-promotion" is part of a strategy as well. :)

BTW, referring to that above spectacular concert, to anyone
watching it, make sure you watch the final encore where the four
guest organists alternate (switch playing - live) one after the other
during that final selection, doing this as if it were just one
organist is really neat. 8) :D

Thought the gal doing the page turn bit for the one organist did a
great job, much better than the electronic types.

I would be also interested in a reissue of this sample set. I originally held off hoping that the Skinner reissue would fill this gap.
