I know, thanks Thomas !
I was a little sarcastic last day , sorry, it was not against you or your sample but against the MDA lack of communication, you were the victim of my bad mood about HW6.
I think it's realy a good and courageous decision to produce always samples for HW4.2 and at an affordable price for such an organ.
I asked you a few hours ago a 2 weeks licence to test this sample with my HW5 system... but I also own a HW4.2 installation. ...not easy to decide, Wait on my answer.... or on demos on CCH if I feel well with this sample.
Kind regards

Ah, I see :)

Then you live not far away from Sankt Arnual. A visit there is always a pleasure, not only because of the organ. But it‘s occupied by students and their teachers all the time

Dear all,

I have used this sample set now for 2 weeks, thanks to the trial license. I think the set is nicely made. Unfortunately I'm totally disappointed by Kuhn and how they tonally concepted and voiced this organ. How do others experience this organ set?

best regards,
Martijn

Hello. I also asked for a trial license. The recording is not the problem, Thomas has done a great job with this sample. The problem is the organ..... a new intonation and voicing could be necessary. I tested with 2 differents audio installations, and both with same results (voicing, balance...). As I live not far from Saarbrücken I must visit this church and listen to the organ (or play it).... when COrona crisis will finished (very soon I hope !!!!!!). Perhaps a visit could change my point of view.
Best regards

I find this Sample Set to be exceptionally lovely. For me, the best French Romantic Style Sample Set since the release of HW 5. For live play (using Headphones), I blend the Front and Rear Sounds, with a touch of added Reverb and normal Tracker Sounds. For playback of MIDI files which I produce by hand, I use Front Sound only, with NO added reverb and NO Tracker Sounds.

Granted, the Disposition is unusual, but this is well known before ordering the Sample Set. There are not as many Principal Stops as on a Baroque Organ, but this is made up for by the exceptionally lovely Flute voices, and a very fine Voix Celeste (to be used with the Viole de Gambe).

I have just successfully recorded a Virtual Performance of Naji Hakim's "To Call My True Love To My Dance", a wonderful set of Variations on a traditional English Carol (with strong Middle Eastern overtones!). To my ears, the sounds achieved with this Sample Set well surpass any recording of this work available on You-Tube. Sorry I cannot post this one, but the piece is still covered by International Copyright.

My problem is not the organs stop list. I find that very appealing and that was also the reason why I was interested in this set. Looking at the stop list I was expecting a more French symphonic (as done by Cavaillé-Coll) sound concept. Unfortunately I do not hear this in this organ. Sure there are also nice stops on this organ, but the overall concept and voicing isn't what I was expecting and hoped for. Just labeling stops with French names doesn't make it sound more French.

It should be clear that this organ is not a Cavaille-Coll copy, but an instrument that can adequately represent French music from the Baroque to the modern. If you want a Cavaille-Coll sample set, they already exist on the market.

I really love this sampleset - it is very different and indeed unique in my collection at this point. I have the historic instruments for "authentic sounds" but the Kuhn represents an eclectic modern sound that handles a large variety of repertoire very well. I am particularly excited to try out some modern music on it (there's a piece I have not played in years that was composed with a modern instrument in mind, and it is a joy to be able to register *that* as specified ;) ) This is the joy of HW - a variety of sounds for a variety of occasions - the quality of the sampling is superb but I do recommend listening to all the demos before you take the plunge, and if you have purchased it - spend some time with it - slowly but surely it will reveal its own unique beauty!!

And as described on my website you have the opportunity to test it 14 days with the full functionality for a small fee.

I was not expecting a Cavaillé-Coll copy! But an organ with a similar tonal concept based on the same tonal principals (as in 'rules', not the organ stop). Kuhn did things fundamentally different.

That is very generous indeed and I'm thankful I could try out this set for two weeks.

I have released an update for the sampleset which improves the visuability of the stop knobs on small screens (not for single jamb). You can download the update here:

You can have a look at the improved layout here:
