Hello Graham

I'm thinking about buying an theater organ sampleset ... but I'm a bit lost.
I play traditionnal occidental music on HW4 and on a real pipe organ in a church made of stone,
but I'd like to explore this kind of instrument and this genre of music.
Wich instrument would be the more interesting for me ?
I'm looking for, pianos, percussions, a lot of toys and specific sounds ... in a good stereo sound quality.
I've allready got some virtual pianos, with a master keyboard, not HW related.
I don't need the second touch option at all.
I dont want something similar to church organs sound, but rather the opposite.
but I don't like dry sounds, I like soft reverb, but not too much...

Sorry if it looks complicated ! Can you help me to make up my mind, please ?
Thank you,
Regards,
Denis

I’m not an expert, but based on your post, I think you would probably want the Wonder Morton 4/23 or 4/32. If money is no object, I’d go for the 4/32. Of the larger sets, it has more toys, and is available as a wet set. Personally I prefer to have a dry set and add reverb with Hauptwerk V/VI, but that is a personal preference. I find the reverberation of theatre organ spaces a bit flat.

Hi Denis,

We also have some donationware VTPOs that you can download for free (and make a donation for if you want to keep them and you're able to). So perhaps order one of them to test out your system and then get a bigger set. The Wonder Morton 4/23 comes in Wet and Dry versions (the 4/32 is only available in Dry), but with HW4 you have the option of adding VST reverb if the sound is too dry for you. Wurlitzer Opus 1680 (3/31) is available in Wet and Dry as well. Have a listen to the audio demos and see what you prefer.

Kind regards,

I have the Wonder Mortons (wet and dry), the Redford Barton, and the Albee Wurlitzer (Opus 1680, both wet and dry). I also have the Paramount 341 and the Masterworks Wurlitzer 3/31. In my opinion, the Opus 1680 sets a new standard for theatre organ sample sets.. The individual notes on all ranks are very clear and transparent. I am running 24 bits at 48 kHz. The rank to rank tunings are very good, as is the voicing across ranks. If you aspire to a George Wright Pasadena Studio type sound, the dry set with the small chapel impulse response is a good start.
The only tweak I made was to increase the level of the grand piano, as I found it a little low even with the expression pedal wide open.
