Noordbroek: Schnitger Virtual Organ for Hauptwerk

PostMon Feb 01, 2021 8:33 am

I wish to present the new Sonus Paradisi Noordbroek sample set to you today.

Arp Schnitger delivered an organ to the Noordbroek (NL) church in 1695 or 1696. A. A. Hinsz made extensive repairs in the 18th century. In 1809, H. H. Freytag expanded the organ and it is the shape of the instrument even today, after the restoration by Cor Edskes in 1955. For obvious reasons, this is one of the most precious instruments in the Groningen area.

The organ is composed of 24 stops of north German flavor, six of them reed stops. Designed on two manuals (Hoofdwerk and Rugwerk) and a pedal. The special character of the organ is enhanced by the enchanting acoustics of the church. The sample set works in HW 4.2 as well as in Hauptwerk 5 or Hauptwerk 6. It is an unencrypted sample set. The sample set consists of 8 channels: the direct, diffuse, distant and rear recording perspectives. Using the built-in mixer, it is possible to achieve any desired mix of perspectives. The pipe coupling feature is included.

Visit the web presentation of the the Noordbroek sample set for more details, including the audio demo pieces. A free demo sample set is available.

xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
I also wish to note, that I still have plenty of trial codes for the St. Martini, Groningen, sample set. Its current version 1.2 has the pipe coupling feature included. The trial codes for the Doesburg sample set are also available in a good amount.

That's excellent news, Jiri!

This organ is a pure beauty in a historic church with nice acoustics.
Very good memories about this organ. Together with my old father, I undertook the journey to Noordbroek a number of times. Every time the playing time went by too fast . . .

Looking forward to playing it at home.

This is really a wonderful small baroque instrument. I've been stumbling (I'd say "playing", but that's a stretch) through repertoire on it for most of the last two days, much to the chagrin of my spouse, and probably the neighbors. And … it has a very nice 4' reed in the pedal, even if there's no 2' flute on the RP.

I have a penchant for smaller instruments. This one is a joy, fun to play — and it isn't priced in the stratosphere, either.

For me, the Noordbroek sample set is one of the best und liveliest sets, I've purchase so far. Very close to the original. The attack phase in particular brings this sound. Please also edit the loop phases, die sound would be perfect.

Listened to your concert, Aarnoud, fantastic. I liked it very much. I am wondering how you achieved such 'spatious' sound? Are you transmitting live distant channels or mixing direct with rear and distant? I would love to get such sound when playing myself, over headphones, and I am wondering, how to achieve that.

Another technical question for you Aarnoud : your setup includes it seems two ipads for the scores, but what is the reader you use, especially as regards page-turning ?

Thanks,

Hi Pierre-Henri,

The app is called Forscore (https://forscore.co) and in the pro version (https://forscore.co/pro/) you can use mouth or head gestures to turn pages.

Best wishes,

Thanks Aarnoud,

I actually bought this app but didn't use it much, and chose Newzik instead, but this feature might be a game changer... Unfortunately, my ipad is not compatible it seems... but my iphone is, so maybe I'll be able to use it to turn pages on my ipad.

Incredible instrument, incredible sample set. Oooh, those reeds! I was away for a while, now I return to the forum and read this post... Wow! Another fantastic, must have sample set of a masterpiece of the true Stradivarius of baroque organ building, Mr. A. Schnitger. Really, life isn't so bad after all.
