OrganArt Media is pleased to announce the release of the 1925 G.F. Steinmeyer Organ Set of Berlin, Germany.
The Steinmeyer Organ op. 1400 is a unique instrument of international standing.
The organ is considered to be the direct ancestor of the world-famous, and, at that time, the world's largest pipe organ in Passau Cathedral, which no longer exists in its original form due to extensive reorganization.
As a monument to the time between the two world wars, the instrument is one of the few completely preserved large organs from the first half of the 20th century that unites the artistic ideas of that time. The monumental symphonic universal organ with late romantic roots and references to the classical organ, implements fundamental reform concepts according to Rupp-Schweitzer.
There are classical repeating mixtures at higher pitches, swell divisions with well-equipped reed stops and mutations up to ninths. The stops have a pronounced blending ability. The overall sound character is significantly brighter than in the high and late romantic periods (cf. 1884 Walcker Annaberg-Buchholz). An extensive range of string stops on every manual complement and modifies the foundation stops and show American influences.
The Steinmeyer organ has a very broad tonal palette and dynamics with soft and quiet, almost inaudible timbres (pppp, e.g. Aeoline 8 ) up to an extraordinarily strong and dense 16-foot-based tutti (ffff), when using the sub- and super-octave-couplers. The Rollschweller (roller crescendo) with 56 steps allows an almost seamless crescendo.
This instrument, preserved in its original state, with its extensive stop list, the extended manual and pedal compasses, unusual for their time, and the modern pedal keyboard layout, two swell divisions, the extensive playing aids with numerous sub and super octave couplers, and the tubular bell chimes, must be described as a particular stroke of luck.
For details about the instrument and its specification please check the OAM web site Steinmeyer Organ Specification
A lot of live played organ demos are already available
The set includes extensive documentation on the history of the Steinmeyer instrument, church and organ building, excerpts from the original inauguration document from 1925, as well as contributions to understanding the Alsatian-German organ reform, which is reflected in this instrument.
In addition, numerous registration instructions and examples are available with the attached, directly loadable registration files (OrganCombinations).
Through intensive cooperation with the titular organist in setting the voicing parameters and the spatial mapping, a previously unheard of realism was achieved.
Recording:
48 kHz, 24 bit, multi-channel. The stops were recorded with multiple release levels for short, medium and long key attacks for optimal acoustical mapping. All stops were additionally recorded with the original tremulant sound.
