New: Pieter Backer organ 1671 Medemblik the Netherlands

PostThu Jul 15, 2021 8:06 am

It is with great pleasure that we can proudly announce to the Hauptwerk community, the completion of our new sampleset of the Pieter Backer organ (1671) of the Bonifaciuschurch of Medemblik (Netherlands).

It has mechanical chests, 22 stops divided on 3 manuals, the pedal has no stops.
The 'Borstwerk' has a limited compass which is quite special.
It has a typical 'Dutch' tremulant and a very unique 'Regaal 8' made of pear wood (cup and beaker are made from one piece of wood)

On request we added Pedal stops and we also provided some extra manual stops in a special 'Extended version' as well as a wider compass (also adding the missing notes from the Borstwerk) and extra couplers to make the sampleset more versatile.
The extended version has 3 manuals (C - f''') and pedal (C- f') and 35 stops.

The instrument is very good for Baroq music as you can hear in the demo's. On the other hand the typical Dutch Choral style is also very nice on this instrument, especially because of the deep tremulant and the nice windmodel.

All of the history of this instrument can be read at our website:

Short history:

Pieter Backer built - 1671
Chr. Bätz Positif added- 1785
J.H. Overdiek displacement - 1859
L. van Dam & Zn. recovery/modification - 1863
Flentrop Orgelbouw conservative recovery - 1966
Flentrop Orgelbouw restauration - 1989-2000

Of course this sampleset also uses our '3 channel' slider technology which give the user the possibility of playing the organ at the perspective he likes the most.

Tremulant of the Borstwerk has been recorded as it is in reality however the user can choose if he wants the original tremulant or the artificial version which can be adjusted.

The church acoustics is very warm and the rear channel contains up to 6 seconds of reverb.

Listen to the demo's on our website:
