Leens Virtual Organ: sound before and after restoration

PostSat Aug 26, 2023 11:38 am

I am delighted to present the Leens sample set to you. Albert Antoni Hinsz delivered an organ to the Leens (NL) church of St. Petri in 1733/34. The organ was renovated in 1843/44 by Geert Pieters Dik, then in 1867 it was repaired by Petrus van Oeckelen after the construction of the new tower of the church, and in 1922 it was restored by Jan Doornbos. In 1963-67, the organ was restored by Gebr. Van Vulpen. In 2019, further restoration was entrusted to Orgelmakerij Reil.

The special feature of this sample set consists in double recording of the sound of the pipes. We recorded the organ twice, in 2017 (before the recent restoration) and in 2022 (after the restoration). Therefore, the sample set offers the possibility to listen to the sound of the organ before the restoration and after the restoration. This is quite amazing: you can recall and play a form of the instrument which no longer exists, and , you can have a direct comparison of the sound changes due to the recent restoration, with a single click, using the switch located on the Mixer tab in Hauptwerk. Hold a chord and listen to the sound before the restoration, click the before-after button, and hear the same chord sounding after the restoration of pipes.

The organ is a famous Dutch instrument, it needs no introduction. Composed of 27 stops, designed on two manuals (Hoofdwerk and Rugwerk) and a pedal. The sample set works in HW 4.2 as well as in any higher version, including the fresh Hauptwerk 8. It is an unencrypted sample set.

The sample set consists of 5 perspectives (10 channels): the direct, diffuse, distant and rear perspectives form the surround sound, plus there is an organist perspective for those who want to hear the organ in the way the organist does. Using the built-in mixer, it is possible to achieve any desired mix of perspectives.

Visit the web presentation of the the for more details, including the audio demo pieces.

A free demo sample set is available (including the before-after restoration feature).
