It must be a great joy indeed for all the owners of the beautiful Silbermann at the Georgenkirche, this update to Hauptwerk v2!
But how about us, owners of the smaller Silbermann at the Marienkirche?
Can we expect an update to v2 anywhere in the near future?

Yes, it should be available before the end of the year along with the Arp Schnitger organ as well. I will post status updates here as the time nears. Thank you!

Just a couple of demos from the OrgelBuchlein that I have just recorded demonstrating the organ's full plenum. Well, the first (Komm, Gott Schoepfer) is full plenum and the 2nd (Heut Triumphieret) is full plenum minus the 16 foot Bourdon.

The 'mistakes' in the recordings are due to Hauptwerk's funny glitch about one minute into recording. They're not my playing, honest :D

I tried recording Buxtehude's Komm, Heiliger Geist, Herre Gott to show of the cornet and quintedena but I've had one G&T too many ... perhaps tomorrow. :?

Hello David,

I've just sent you an email with a temporary fix for the v2.20 bug that caused periodic glitches when recording.

Best regards,
Martin.

Hooray, my copy of the Silberman was delivered yesterday, late
in the afternoon. So this morning I attempted to load it. But.....

Two of the three files seemed to load just fine: the ODF and
temperaments files loaded almost instantly. However, the Component
samples file would NOT load; even waited an hour. Tried unloading the two
files which did load (put in the ODF first, then the temperaments files),
then loading the sample file first. That didn't work either.
Have the latest 2.2 of HW. Tried loading up, one after the other, the
two organs I practice with each day: Willis and Virginia Wurlitzer v2;
the played just fine, so nothing wrong with HW, I guess. So don't
know if my HW Installer is not operating properly, or if the sample
files on my new Silberman DVD disk are somehow not correct.

Any thoughts? I have tried the loading several times. Oh, I am pretty
sure I have the dongle updated as Martin sent me the code a few days
ago; he was responding to a notice from Milan Digital, and the
Silberman is the only organ I have had on order in recent weeks.

Hello Jim,

Can you describe exactly what happens, or doesn't happen, when you attempt to install the file? Does Hauptwerk report any errors, or get stuck at a particular point?

Are you able to copy the installation file from the DVD to your hard-disk, or does Windows Explorer fail to copy it?

Best regards,
Martin.

I have NOT copied the installating DVD files to my hard drive; have
never done that with any HW2 organ installation.

What happens, after getting to the "install files", I click on the
component samples file, it shows up then in the window for loading,
I click on OPEN, and a window appears which reads, " Please wait
while the file is prepared for extraction" or something similar to those
words, and then I wait........and wait......and wait. Pretty soon I click
on Cntrl-Alt-Delet, and see nothing is happening via the CPU. Then
click on CANCEL....nothing happens. With enough clicking around, at
last another window saying the Program is Not Responding appears,
and I can eventually get everything to disappear. Then I have tried
again, and just go through the same routine to nothing......weird.

Hi Jim,

I am not sure if you have read the section under Known Bugs on the website here. Here it is:

HW2-000402: Component installer may appear to have frozen when installing very large sample sets.

In Hauptwerk version 2.20 onwards, when you have selected a component package to install using the 'File | Install organ, sample set, temperament or impulse response' menu function, Hauptwerk's component installer first copies the whole component package file to a temporary location on your hard-disk before attempting to extract it. During this initial copying process the message 'Please wait whilst the organ is loaded and prepared for use on your system' is displayed, with a progress indicator beneath it. However, with extremely large component package files of several gigabytes, the progress indicator may stay at 0 percent throughout the whole process. Since copying a file of several gigabytes may easily take ten minutes or more, it appears that Hauptwerk has frozen. However that is NOT the case. Please simply wait as long as necessary (the CD/DVD drive activity light should continue to show activity) and eventually the extraction process will start, unless an error is reported reading the CD/DVD. Thus the component installer works perfectly, apart from the fact that the progress indicator does not show activity with extremely large files. This problem is related to the way that the size of such files is reported incorrectly by some Windows functions, and the problem does not affect Mac OS X.

Please just allow the window to remain open without clicking anything or CTRL ALT Delete, it should eventually get through the process and work fine. Please let me know if not.

Thank you.

Hello Jim,

There is a known bug in v2.20 (will be fixed in v2.21) in that the progress indicator doesn't move if installing a very large file (over about 2 GB). However, if you've literally left it for an hour, then it is probably having problems reading the DVD.

Please do try copying it to your hard-disk, just to see whether Windows Explorer can copy the file. If that works, then try using Hauptwerk's component installer to install it from there, and just leave it to complete even if you don't see the progress indicator move.

Thanks and best regards,
Martin.

I copied it from the disk to the hard drive and installed it from there and it was fine. I didn't first try installing it from the DVD, however, so that might have been fine too.

The Silberman is now loaded, and plays!

I did the trick suggested by Martin: copied the installation-files
folder over to the C: drive; went to those when asked to load
for installation. Again two of them were nearly instantaneous, while
the Component Sample file required nearly 14 minutes of installation
time.

Question: I want to run the organ at 24 bit. I was presented a list of
many ranks, and some other items, so tried to select all of them
to install via 24 bit; but only one would highlight in BLUE. After
clicking 24 bit and OK, there was a momentary flash of activity,
and I was back to the opening HW screen? Does that mean that
all those are now loaded in at 24 bit, or must I go through this
process all those many successive times to get each of the 22
ranks loaded in 24 bit resolution. No big deal to do so, just time
consuming.

Thanks much for the advice!

I'm anxious for this fix too, but I don't want to cause you additional work. When will the official release be ready?
