Martin,

Thank you for bringing us 96Khz!!!

I mostly use Hauptwerk in an audio production workflow, with a filter chain where aliasing is a real concern. My production finals are always at 48Khz because of course it's just a waste of space to go above that, but now I can finally master at 96Khz, in-DAW.

Even better, I can have ALL organs set at 96Khz, regardless of the instrument's sample native rate. This makes project setup so much simpler. I've missed that 44.1 - 48 difference more than once in the past when switching organs, and only discovered later that my entire production was out of tune because of it.

The upper-end clarity with Hauptwerk's new engine is definitely noticeable, particularly when the turbulence modeling is enabled.

Can both of these settings be changed "on the fly", or does either one require the Cache File for that Organ to be re-generated?

Hello OrganoPleno,

Changes to neither require caches to be regenerated, so you can quickly and easily experiment with either or both options.

(Note, however, that some audio drivers present different device channels at 96 kHz than at 48 kHz, so you might need to re-launch Hauptwerk to see the changed channel list after changing to/from 96 kHz. My RME UFX's Windows ASIO driver requires that, for example, but not on macOS, and but my MOTU and M-Audio interfaces don't.)

What is this turbulence modeling you speak of?

I've searched the Hauptwerk 6 manual, but find no mention of this.

I'm certainly interested in any feature that improves the sound :-)

Hello Lawrence,

I think mwdiers was referring to Hauptwerk's air flow randomisation model, whose depth can be adjusted via the Organ settings | Organ preferences | Audio engine' screen. (Neither that model, nor that setting, are themselves new for Hauptwerk v6.)

If you have only two loud speakers ( Hi Fi standard-medium quality ) ( and a correct external sound card), will the improvement in sound be perceptible ?

Hello bourdon,

I can't of course absolutely guarantee that you'll hear/notice an improvement, but I would expect that it would be audible (especially as improved perceived clarity when lots of pipes sound together, due to the significantly lower distortion), even via a pair of medium-quality hi-fi speakers.
Best regards, Martin.
