VPO Console Hardware for the DIY-er

PostWed Mar 03, 2021 7:38 pm

Hi, folks.

After designing and building literally every component on my "Opus 2", (http://forum.hauptwerk.com/viewtopic.php?f=21&t=17734) I decided that maybe there are others out there who would benefit from what I came up with. So, I have decided to launch a "store" where interested people can go to purchase key cheeks, piston rails, manual supports, launch pad accessories, etc. I am slowly working through all of the options but, at the moment, I am up and running and looking for a few would-be testers to offer up opinions and improvement suggestions for my designs. If you are interested, please let me know as I would be willing to to offer up some good deals in exchange for honest feedback.

Primarily, I am hoping to provide solid, high-quality pieces catered to the DIY-er; someone who wants to build their own console - to the extent that they can - on their own, but who doesn't have the tools or time to build every single component.

ALL key cheeks, piston rails, and launch pad drawers are made or machined from single blocks of solid hardwood. No MDF, no veneers, no fillers. I regularly keep Maple, Poplar, Cherry and Oak on hand. The exotics (Mahogany, Wenge, Ebony, etc.) are also possible, but lead times, availability (and price) will vary greatly. You can also request specific types - such as Quilted or Birdseye Maple, etc. but again, lead times and availability will vary.

Currently, I am offering the following products:

Square Key Cheeks for Fatar manuals. (Your choice of wood. I plan on adding angled, and the "Skinner S" profiles very soon.)

Manual Support Frame (My key cheeks mount to this, and are hinged in the back, which allows them to fold back giving you full access to service everything very easily. It can attach to any flat surface - a console top, a table or desk, etc. and can accommodate 2-5 manuals. It is made from cabinet-grade 3/4" UV treated Birch plywood.)

Launch Pad Mini Junk Drawer - A true VPO first, that I'm aware of! Machined from a solid block of hardwood. Easy glide, durable, and super handy!

I will eventually finish designing and building my expression shoes as well, which will be attachable to any console, and again, will be made from solid hardwood! These are forthcoming.

If you have suggestions for components or products that you think would be valuable, please contact me via my website. I would love to talk to you and collaborate.

If you have any questions, comments, concerns, please message me. I am not trying to "compete" with everyone else out there. I just enjoy doing this kind of work and I hope to bring some benefit to others as well.

You will also notice, on my site, I do build and sell other non-Hauptwerk/VPO things, such as arcade cabinets - which I started building for friends as a hobby, but I have sold many of them as of late. I enjoy designing and building, so there may be a myriad of other things on there in the near future.

I have now designed and released a new keycheek for Fatar manuals that incorporates a 2.5 degree slope, for those who prefer sloping keyboard stacks. Check them out!

These keycheeks and support frame system are designed to be placed on any flat surface - an existing console, keydesk, table.... etc. Super simple and effective.
