Op. 6 - No frills but no compromises

PostSat Nov 19, 2022 9:36 pm

My latest instrument is a custom design built entirely to AGO specs, but is the lightest and most portable console I know of.

Op. 6 was commissioned by a Chicago area organist who lives on the upper floor of a building without an elevator. The idea was to build an instrument that was modular, portable, and still hold true to AGO spec.

The three manual key cheeks are machined from a solid 2” slab of white oak, with piston rails also machine from white oak.

The bench is made from a solid oak slab, with black steel legs, matching the keyboard stand.

The expression pedals are “potentiometer-less” to make them more durable with no moving parts.

Beautiful job, Drew. There are probably lots of folks who would find this appealing. Thanks for sharing.

I'm late to the party, but this is quite splendid. Excellent, as always. I love your plaque too. (I need one for my stack, lol!)

Are you going to build for resale?

Yes, I build custom commissions or occasionally I will have an instrument “in stock” that I build, without design input from anyone, and then just list for sale.
