After trying to load a midifile with Hauptwerk a window popped up from Hauptwerk:
"The MIDI file has an invalid format (Diagnostics: problem found near file byte number 0)
Message code (for diagnostic purposes) : 2583"
I did not click OK but choosed to click on "Save information to a diagnostic file"
This file "Hauptwerk Diagnostic File 2024-07-22.Diagnostic_Hauptwerk_gz" has no extension.
The file is not readable with a text editor.
I know what the problem was with that Midi file. It was a corrupt file and I have to make a new one.
This corrupted MIDI file was not generated by Hauptwerk but with another midi-editor!
Is there a list with Message codes and their meaning and is there a prorgam to read the Hauptwerk Diagnostic file?
I am using HW 4.2
Message code 2583
Re: Message code 2583
Hello Sample_02,
Briefly, since we no longer officially support Hauptwerk v4 (but the same applies in v8):
That error message simply means that something in the file's format is corrupted/invalid. Hauptwerk doesn't log more detailed information in that case, beyond the message that you've already pasted.
(Diagnostic files can be extracted using "Help | View/extract contents of a backup or diagnostic file ...", but it's the log that would be relevant anyway, and you can see that via "Help | View activity log" without also needing to create or extract a diagnostic file. Diagnostic files are intended for sending to support providers so that they can see the log and Hauptwerk settings, but v4 isn't supported any more anyway.)

You can see the full error messages via "Help | View activity log". However, no relevant additional information would have been logged in that particular case.Sample_02 wrote:Is there a list with Message codes and their meaning and is there a prorgam to read the Hauptwerk Diagnostic file?

Re: Message code 2583
Thank you for your information.
Meanwhile I know how to avoid a corrupt MIDI file in this case. After changing one note in that file with the MIDI editor and saved it, then this failure popped up. The MIDI editor ran on a Windows10 machine. Running the same editor on a Windows11 laptop the problem was solved.
