Swell boxes in MILAN and Sonus Paradisi samples

Post by OrgelEnjoyer »

I'm a user of HW4 (yes)

Some samples I use (Skinner, Caen) have swell boxes, and when I'm opening the sample set everytime the Swell box is closed, so I need to manually open it up. How to fix that problem, and is it fixable?

Hello OrgelEnjoyer,

Welcome to the forum. Briefly (since we no longer officially support Hauptwerk v4, but the same applies in the current v8 version):

I just checked in v4, and both of the MDA Skinner's virtual expression pedals do default to fully open when first installed, but you can change their default states by right-clicking on them, selecting "Adjust MIDI/trigger settings manually ...", and setting the "Default position (0-127)" setting to whatever you like (0 is fully closed, and 127 is fully open).

If those settings are already set to 127 and if the virtual expression pedals are still in the closed positions after you load/reset the organ, then presumably your MIDI console is moving them to the closed positions initially. You could perhaps verify by temporarily switching off your MIDI organ console, then loading the organ again.

Alternatively, you could try temporarily turning on the "General settings | General preferences | Advanced ... | Diagnostics: log all MIDI messages received and sent" setting in Hauptwerk, then, after re-loading the organ, using "Help | View activity log" to see what MIDI messages Hauptwerk received that affected the virtual expression pedals.

Alternatively, for testing you could right-click on the expression pedals, select "Clear all MIDI/trigger settings ...", then re-load the organ to verify that they default to fully open. Assuming so, you could then auto-detect them again.

(For testing the above, you could actually avoid the need to re-load the organ by instead using "Engine | Reset organ/MIDI".)
