No sound

Post by OrgelEnjoyer »

I'm a user of HW4

I installed the Großhartmannsdorf sample set, but it has no sound. What do I do?

Hello OrgelEnjoyer,

Briefly (since we no longer officially support Hauptwerk v4, but the same applies in the current v8 version):

- Try loading the St. Anne's organ, to see whether the problem is specific to the Großhartmannsdorf sample set.

- If you get no sound with St. Anne's, then try completely shutting down the computer and audio interface, waiting 15 seconds or so, then starting it all up again. Also check that no other audio applications are running that might be trying to use your audio interface at the same time as Hauptwerk. Also check that you have the correct audio driver selected in Hauptwerk.

- If, on the other hand, you do get sound with St. Anne's (but still not with the Großhartmannsdorf sample set) then trying clicking on some of the Großhartmannsdorf's virtual keys, to see whether that produces sound. If so, you probably don't have MIDI auto-detected properly for its keyboards.
Best regards, Martin.

Hello mdyde

Can I load other samples than St. Annes?

If yes, only Großhartmannsdorf has no sound.
And the keyboards are attached, I used this set before
What to I do?

Hello OrgelEnjoyer,

To confirm:

1. If you now try loading St. Anne's, do you definitely do hear its pipe sounds when played?

2. If you then load the Großhartmannsdorf sample set again, do you definitely *not* hear its pipe sounds, even if you use the mouse to turn on its virtual stops then use the mouse to click on keys on the appropriate virtual keyboards?
Best regards, Martin.

Here's a potentially stupid question, and apologies if so, but do you have to manually turn the blower on for this virtual instrument? I don't know it myself, but a screenshot I saw online suggests this might be a possibility.

Thanks, OrgelEnjoyer.

- Are you using a PC or a Mac?

- Are you using the Advanced Edition, or the Basic Edition, or the Free Edition?

- What audio interface are you using?

- On the "General settings | Audio outputs" screen, what (driver) is selected for the "Audio output device" setting, and what is selected for the "Sound delay (buffer size)" setting? (St. Anne's uses 44.1 kHz, whereas most other sample sets use 48 kHz, which might be relevant.)

- Do you have more than one entry in the left-hand list on that screen?

- With the Großhartmannsdorf sample set loaded, when you click on keys, do you see any activity on the "Audio" meter on the "Audio, MIDI and Performance" large control panel (which can be opened via the View menu)?

- How much RAM does your computer have, and how much is listed as 'Free' on that control panel (with the Großhartmannsdorf sample set loaded)?

[Edit: P.S. MeOulSegosha and I replied at the same time. Yes -- please do check that the blower is turned on, if the sample set has such as a switch.]
Best regards, Martin.
