Hi all, I'm new to Hauptwerk.
I get the following error message when trying to load my largest sample set on my MacBook Air almost every single time, and it prevents me from opening the organ. There have been a couple of random times that it HAS worked and loaded, but I have no idea what was different when it worked.
The error message: Could not start CoreAudio audio device 'MiniFuse 2'
When I change to a different audio device, I get the same error message, but with a reference to the other audio device:
Could not start CoreAudio audio device 'MacBook Air Speakers'. Please try re-booting the computer. (Operating system message: AudioHardwareUnspecifiedError, code: 2003329396 hex: 77686174.)
- It only occurs when I'm loading the Evensong 1927 EM Skinner (Immanuel Presbyterian LA).
- Note that I adjusted rank audio memory options by loading only 2 out of 3 of the perspectives in order to save memory. (I don't have enough space otherwise.)
- It worked fine for a couple of days.
- Then it quit working, with no indication why.
- As I mentioned, now it hardly ever works, but there have been two random times when it has.
- I have no problems when I load the smaller Evensong organs Immanuel Presbyterian Hradetsky and Immanuel Presbyterian Schlicker.
- I have no problems when I load the St. Anne's Moseley or the Freisenach
I am trying to approach it scientifically and here are the things I have tried:
- Making sure that every application is closed except Hauptwerk to ensure that I'm not using too much memory.
- Uninstalled and reinstalled the problematic organ
- Uninstalled and reinstalled Zoom (wondering if ZoomAudio is messing something up)
- Have restarted tons of items
- Checked to make sure I have all updates
- Tried all different orderings of unplugging and plugging the MIDI console and the audio device before and/or after starting Hauptwerk
I'm stumped! Thanks for any help from anyone.

Re: Could not start CoreAudio audio device
How much memory (RAM) does your Mac have? MacOS audio starts failing at about 2/3 of memory, so IPLA might be exceeding that. There could be other causes I haven't heard of.
IPLA Skinner loaded at 24 bits, all releases, single loops, all 3 perspectives takes 25GB of memory. Loading multiple loops (sustain samples) takes more.

Re: Could not start CoreAudio audio device
Thanks much for the reply. A memory issue makes sense. I have 16GB of RAM. When I choose to load only 2 of the 3 audio perspectives for IPLA (and when it actually does load for me and not end with this error), the Hauptwerk program shows it using about 13GB of the 16GB available. So maybe that's just too close for comfort and interferes with the audio?

Re: Could not start CoreAudio audio device
Yes, I have had the same problem many times. With Hauptwerk 4 and the mac OS we had back in 2014, I could almost fill up the 4 GB of RAM on a macbook air completely and it would still run. Today I have a Mac Studio with 64 GB of RAM, and some sample sets (PAB) will crash the audio driver if I occupy 40 of those GB. We can all blame OS bloat for that.
