Hello all, I have somehow caused one of my pedal notes to behave like a piston - i.e. program change - instead of note on, note off. I've checked my midi interface and all of the pin assignments are correct. I re-mapped the pedalboard, reset the HW assignments for the entire organ and it still behaves like a piston instead of playing a note.
Has anyone experienced this problem? Does anyone have any idea what I might have done to cause this situation (so I don't do it again!) and/or know how to fix it?
In addition to this problem, and it may well be related, when I press #1 (low C), it plays the #9, the g# above it. When I press note #9, it plays note #17, when I press note #17, it plays note #25, which is the offending piston behaving note.
I would be grateful for any assistance to get this sorted out!
Thank you!
Jim

Re: Incorrect pedal midi note assignment
It would probably help if we knew more about your hardware. Is this a modified electronic organ, or a collection of components? Which midi encoder system do you have? You said you reset the pedalboard, but you should probably clear all the related assignments and start over.

Re: Incorrect pedal midi note assignment
I suggest you use a mini monitoring program to see what midi data are being generated by the pedal board.
Once you know for certain the midi code coming from the pedal system is note on note off codes then detect again it i HW.

Re: Incorrect pedal midi note assignment
Did you by any chance remove and plug back in the connector going from the pedal board to your midi interface? The upward shift of 8 notes is symptomatic of a matrix connector having been shifted.

Re: Incorrect pedal midi note assignment
Thank you for your responses!
David: I am using a re-purposed pedalboard with Peterson reed switches, attached to a Midiworks Midi Control Unit. The first 32 pins are used for the pedalboard - note on/off and the remaining pins are used for pistons - program change.
The MCU connects to the computer via a Roland UM-1 Midi interface.
Ray: I don't have a matrix set up, since each pedalboard key switch has it's own wire to the corresponding pin on the MCU.
I've checked the MCU program and it correctly identifies 1-32 as note on/off and 33-64 as program change.
Ian: Unfortunately, I'm not able to attach the log file from HW diagnostic log.
I hope that with the additional information that you may be able to narrow down the solution for me! Thanks for any assistance you can provide!

Re: Incorrect pedal midi note assignment
Hello Jim,
When Hauptwerk isn't running, try try running MIDI-OX (http://midiox.com/ - for Windows) or Snoize MidiMonitor (for macOS) to see exactly what MIDI messages the console is sending to the computer, and verify that each MIDI pedal key is transmitting the correct MIDI note-on/off note number and nothing else. The pedal keys should use consecutive MIDI note numbers, usually starting with decimal note number 36 (=hexadecimal 24) for the bottom C.

Re: Incorrect pedal midi note assignment
Thanks very much, Martin. I've sent the MIDI-OX output log to the info @
There are three sets. The first shows a lot happening, involving two output notes, with the first press of low C. Then again with note 44 and note 52, but only involving one note.
The second appears to show only a note on for the Glock.
The third appears to be the same as the second.
Kind regards,
Jim

Re: Incorrect pedal midi note assignment
Thanks, Jim.
I'm afraid I don't really have time to work with you on it myself, and I have no first-hand experience with Classic MIDI Works' encoders, but if anything other than one MIDI note-on/off is being received from each pedal key (each with the correct MIDI note number for its pedal) then you must have some kind of problem within the encoder or wiring, and perhaps the MIDI-OX logs might give you a clue as to whereabouts the problem might be within those things.
Alternatively, if you post their contents to this topic perhaps they'll suggest something to some other users of the encoder, or similar ones.
