How to Change a Rank from 16' to 8'

Post by rayjcar »

I'm trying to help a colleague for whom I configured a Hauptwerk installation using the Salisbury Cathedral sample set. He would like the 16' Cor Anglais rank on the solo manual to be 8'. Not being at all conversant with the Custom Organ Definition process, is there a relatively painless way by which this can be accomplished? Also, how would the rank be extended to add the top octave?

I thought Salisbury was encrypted. Is it even possible to use CODM on its samples?

There's always the Solo 4 and Unison Off couplers.

Hello Ray,

The only way to do that would be to create your own organ definition for it from scratch using the Custom Organ Design Module (CODM), but that would be a fairly large undertaking (and involve learning the CODM, of course). (It is possible to use encrypted sample sets in the CODM, unless their licences specifically disallow its use. MDA sample sets do allow its use.)

Failing that, perhaps using a 16" coupler (e.g. a master coupler) for its division might suffice in some circumstances.

Martin, thanks for your prompt response. I think the simplest solution is the use of couplers, on the assumption that the Cor Anglais will be the only stop activated for the Solo manual.
