How does this Rank Voicing parameter work? What should I hear if it's set higher or lower, and under what test conditions might I be able to hear the difference?

Hello Mark,
As the modelled wind pressure varies in real-time for a pipe's virtual wind-chest, the wind supply model (as configured in the organ definition by the sample set producer) modulates the levels of the following in real-time for the pipe, relative to their 'normal'/static values:
- Amplitude.
- Brightness (the harmonic-shaping filters).
- Pitch.
So, for example, the wind model might apply a +2 dB brightness boost for the pipe at a particular instant (due to a slight, temporary over-pressure), relative to its normal/static value.
However, if you were to change the "All perspectives: wind supply mod: brightness (pct)" voicing parameter (from its default of 100%) to 200%, then the brightness boost at that particular instant would instead be +2 x 200% = +4 dB.
To hear the wind model modulations clearly, draw just that one rank and hold a high-ish key while repeatedly pressing/releasing some keys at the bottom of the keyboard (since larger pipes will draw more wind and thus cause the wind supply to the whole wind-chest to 'wobble' more prominently. E.g. try it with just the St. Anne's Large Open Diapason 8' drawn, holding a high note whilst repeatedly pressing and releasing bottom C.

Okay, I hear it on St. Anne's.
I was trying to use it on Caen 2.67. Even at 1000%, no audible difference. I guess the ODF has zeroes for this parameter.
Edit: No, the values must be small but nonzero. If I also increase wind modulation depth to 125% overall, the brightness does diminish audibly when using a lot of wind. I need to experiment more.

Probably obvious, but doesn't hurt to check: on the "Organ settings | Organ preferences" screen, in order to hear it you would also need to have the wind model enabled (as it is by default) with its modulation depths not set to zero (default=100%), and for the harmonic-shaping filters to be enabled (as they are by default).

Yes, those are all default values. Thanks. Well, almost defaults. Caen sets random pitch adjustments to 0 so it can sync front and rear ranks' pitches.

Update: Caen 2.67 does seem to respond very little to heavy wind demand, at least compared to CDs of Caen I have.
Those recordings show an audible, but not excessive, pitch flattening and brightness fading as Caen approaches full organ.
Maybe the 1999 restoration made the wind supply more rigid, so the sampleset has a more subtle wind modulation.
Anyway, increasing the Organ Preferences wind supply modulation depth to 150% and the Rank Voicing wind supply mod: brightness to 250% made it sound about right to me. Set values to taste, but those are in the right direction, I think.
It takes some of the hardness out of the full organ sound so it blends better. Same approach for Beziers.
