E. M. Skinner first HW2 Demos

PostTue Aug 01, 2006 4:14 pm

Note, Brett Milan has posted first demos of the HW2 version
of the E.M.Skinner organ, see:

http://www.milandigitalaudio.com/skinnerdemos.htm

These are two movements from the Widor "Symphonie Romane", Op.73.
Played by Brett himself.

Very excellent!

Oops! Brett had already posted the first movement, along with
a video of the console in action with his July 5th posting, see that video
via Brett's earlier forum note at:

http://forum.hauptwerk.com/view ... 80&start=0

Well, now he has added the Finale from the Widor piece.

Hi Jim,

Yes, slowly getting new demos up as I progress on other things as well. Actually this 1st movement of the Widor is a different take than that of the video demo. (They are all using the same MIDI file of the recording I made of myself playing the Widor however) I'm sure if you listen carefully you may hear some differences between both registrations and also wind fluctuations.

The Final is substantially different than the original HW 1.2 demo as far as registration, so I hope you can give that a good listen. Near the end you can hear the full FULL sound of the Skinner which adds a new level of excitement to this virtual organ! Just watch your speakers. I decided to add the French Horn throughout (it was not used in the original HW1.2 Widor demos) and you can hear it singing out in various places. It actually mixes in quite well with the Great Diapasons.

I should have the rest of the Widor up shortly and then some more demos in the next several days. Until we have a complete new program of HW2 demos I will leave some of the HW 1 demos up for variety.

Since my main priority now is getting the DVDs finalized the website pages may not be updated as quickly as I would like, so please bear with me on that end of things.

Thank you for your order Rob. I trust you will enjoy this set very much.

French Horn

PostWed Aug 02, 2006 8:52 pm

I decided to add the French Horn throughout ... It actually mixes in quite well with the Great Diapasons.

I remember reading several times in old organ
playing books and articles, for example Clarence
Dickinson, that the French Horn should be added
to the Great Diapasons anyway, for a richer sound.

I have tried that too on E. M. Skinner organs and
it really does work! Of course it is also useful by
itself and in various reed combinations.

Steve.
