Hauptwerk 8 Lite vs Advanced

Post by ARPEGGIO »

Does the advanced version of Hauptwerk use more RAM than the lite version?

My computer only has 16Gb of RAM, is this enough for the advanced version?

thank you

Not really, it's all about the organs you want to play. The sampleset (organ) you load takes most of the memory (RAM) that Hauptwerk uses. The memory requirements for the base HW software aren't much. Advanced has some optional features such as convolution reverb, and higher polyphony than Lite's 1024 limit, that can add some small memory consumption.

But the main requirement for memory is usually on the web site for the sampleset you want to run, so look at the requirements for the organs you have in mind.

Advanced supports higher polyphony, which is needed to make larger organs, and organs with multiple surround perspectives or long reverb times, sound good. So you'll tend to use smaller organs with Lite.

16 GB for a Windows PC will load small organs up to about 13 GB. 16 GB for a Mac will only load even smaller organs up to about 10 GB because Mac takes more RAM for the operating system.
