Forum software update Sept 2024

Post by IainStinson »

Thanks for doing this work. I hope it cures the various failures we have seen over the last few years.

It seems nice to use on the iPad…

I notice that the system is now displaying details from users’ profiles along side their posts - even when the viewer has not logged on. Can this be turned off please -potentially it could give quite a lot of information away without any limitations…

Hi Iain,

I've modified settings for this. Let me know if it is working how you might expect it to now. Please bear in mind these are settings in the PHPBB forum software itself and we aren't rewriting the software, so we can only use what is present within it already.

Thanks.

Thanks Brett. The change has worked.

However, on the ipad, with both Safari and Chrome, the top line of the banner (notifications, private messages, login ..) is repeated. I don’t think this was doing this previously.

Update. Clearing the cache seems to have fixed this.

Now if they would just do whatever is needed to have more users able to login in at the same time. The addition of the mobile access will only make this problem worse if they don't increase the capacity.

Have you seen the 25 connection limit error since the forum was updated? I've had timeouts, but that hasn't come back for me yet.

I think that limit is (was) on the database connection pool governing simultaneous query sessions -- "users" only from the database perspective -- not the logged in end user count.

Sorry, but your last sentence is Greek to me. But I know that last night I tried to login and had the same 'no response' that I've had countless other times. I will watch this for a while and report.

I think that's "Geek", not "Greek".

Well, pretty though it is, the updated forum hasn't stopped the tendency to hang-ups; I've had two so far today. I guess they are caused by system issues rather than the forum software itself.

And the old problem that the forum software cannot handle more than 25 users simultaneously isn't solved yet.

Three years ago I've wrote what the SQL-Admin must do:
