Oude Pekela, Van Oeckelen-Organ II/19 From Virtual-Organs NL)

Post by voet »

I recently listened to Paul Feys Tour of Stops of the Oude Pekela, Van Oeckelen-Organ II/19. Apparently this is (was?) a free sampleset from Virtual-Organs NL. Paul recorded this 3 years ago. The links he provided to the sample set no longer seem active. Is this organ still available? Can someone provide me with current links? I would appreciate it.

The website is off-line since last year.
On the internet archive you will find a part of the website at that moment.

No downloads
Jaap Plaisier, one of the 2 creators of the set, is about 75, if he is still alive. I don't know

On the Augustine's Virtual Organs site there is a composite organ made from the three sample sets made by Dirk Swama and Jaap Plaisir after they were made freely available.

https://hauptwerk-augustine.info/Large_Dutch.php

I was going to suggest downloading it and then picking out the stops for the one organ by comparison with the specification; but then I noticed at the bottom of the listing: "if you download and install the files, you can not only use the composite, but you can also use the three original samples" - I took that to mean that the original sample sets were provided in their original form. But then looking further down again I saw that there are simply three links for the three organs plus a fourth for the composite organ file. The links are not named, but the names appear when you click them (the first is Pekala2, the second is Veendam10, and the third is Wildervank25).

So they are in fact still readily available.

Thank you Jan and Paul for your posts. I really appreciate that you took the trouble. It appears that the organ is no longer being offered, which is a shame because it is a nice small romantic Dutch organ.

Dear Bill,

I have an original download. Since it has been released for distribution under the Creative Commons license, it may be freely distributed. If you let me know your e-mail address via legro@kpnmail.nl I will be happy to send you a copy by WeTransfer.

Yes, you can download the three Dutch organs from this website, and anyone who wants to can also try out the composite made from them.

And here I would like to draw your attention to the fact that I have used the original recording of the Wilderwank sample to create an extended Wilderwank sample, which preserves the beautiful sound of the original sample. This sample can be downloaded from here, also for free.

Dirk Swama and Jaap Plaisier's activities and website have been discontinued for more than 5 years, but I thought it was important to keep their work alive. Back then, there were far fewer people making Hauptwerk samples, so each sample had a special value. At least that's what I thought, which is why I kept them. :)
